Jake McCabe puts the Leafs on the board from WAY OUT! That's his first goal since February! 🔥

Leafs were dead last last season with just 21 goals from defence. With three already this year, they're second in the NHL and on pace for more than 3x that.

Obviously early, but that's one way they'll need to generate more offence with their new lineup.

Cayden Primeau’s playing his debut right now! His uncle, Wayne Primeau, has also played in Toronto in 2009-10 🔵⚪️

“I felt like I did a good job of getting pucks, stripping guys, making plays and driving to the net hard. Unfortunately, we didn't come out with the two points tonight, but we'll learn from it and keep on.”

Cowan:

“Yeah, I felt good. I wasn't really nervous at all. It was just another game. … felt like I created a lot tonight. It's pretty crazy. You know, about five years ago I was playing Junior B. So, just shows, if you stick with it and work hard, good things will come.”

Knies:

“He played phenomenal. He's gonna be a heckuva player. I'm excited to keep playing with him.
That pass to Matty for that breakaway, that's pretty elite. And I think he did a tremendous job in every zone.”

He made smart plays with the puck. When plays were to be made, he made him. And when the simple play was there to just get the puck deep or whatnot, he made it.”

Matthews:

“I thought he was great. He just carries himself with such a good confidence in himself and in the way that he can play and compete. Easy guy to play with. …

Craig Berube:

“I thought he had a great game. He made a lot of good plays with the puck. I just thought five-foot plays all over the ice. He made a lot of them, too. He was very good on the forecheck. He's got a great hockey IQ, that's the bottom line.”

Easton Cowan’s debut:

Matthews on vs. Detroit:

“I think that's definitely more the style to play and the way we want to compete through 60 minutes. There's just gonna be nights like that where you just come up on the wrong side of it, but l think there's lots that we can take from this game and build on.”
leafschronicle.bsky.social
Craig Berube:

“Great work ethic in practice, he's looked comfortable in practice. We've liked him in practice, his work ethic has been excellent, he's done a good job.”

Anthony Stolarz on Cayden Primeau:

“He's really calm in there, just from watching him practice and what not. Excited for him, he's a hell of a goalie and someone who's going to help our team.”

Craig Berube on William Nylander (yesterday):

“He doesn't have enough shots. He came into Detroit, he didn't have any, had one or two tonight. He needs to get it to him more. He needs to shoot more. He needs to attack more. He's got to get on the inside more..things like that.”
