Last one of the summer! Learn to handpaint or dye Superwash Wool Yarn with me! I will cover 2-3 different dyeing techniques, including variegated stripes, tonal building of colors, and speckles. Included with the class are 2 skeins of sustainable, American grown Shaniko Superwash Wool. You are welcome to bring additional wool yarn or spinning fiber. Yvonne will also have additional yarn available fur purchase. If you are interested in dyeing sweater quantity of yarn during the class, please makes sure to contact us to make sure enough supplies are on hand.

I’m starting to feel the chill of fall and I am starting to think about all of the cozy projects

I’m starting to feel the chill of fall and I am starting to think about all of the cozy projects I want to make next. So, I’m baking up a batch of pumpkin muffins and brewing myself a warm beverage to go along with them while I knit on my latest sweater project.

This yarn is named Astoria. Astoria sits in the upper left corner of Oregon where the Columbia meets the Pacific Ocean. It blends together blues and greens together as river meets ocean.

Named for the beautiful ocean of the Oregon Coast, this color is simply amazing. Just about every summer my family would head to the Oregon coast for our vacations. I continued the tradition with my family and it is still one of my favorite places to be. I put all the blues and greens of the ocean into this colorway. It looks amazing on any base.

It’s feeling like a good week to get ready for a vacation! All this summer heat is making me think of going to the beach and enjoying some sand and surf. The Oregon Coast is my favorite place to go and this colorway is definitely inspired by places like Cannon Beach and Seaside.

I have a new scarf out in Little Looms Magazine! It is my tribute to my beautiful Katsura trees.

The yarn is Spincycle Dyed in the Wool color Salty Dog for the yellow. The purple is Spinster's Daughter Sport in color Sinopah. 🧶

I have a new scarf out in Little Looms! It is my tribute to my beautiful Katsura trees. Before moving to Washington I hadn’t seen a Katsura tree before. Our new house has 2, plus we planted 2 more after that. They are a beautiful tree that start with purple buds in the winter and spring. The buds transition to lime green heart shaped leaves in the spring, that then darken into green as spring transitions to summer. In the fall all of it turns to a golden yellow and the whole thing starts all over again.

The scarf also starts with the purple buds patterned against starry leaves that transition into stripes that represent the trunk of the tree.

The yarn is Spincycle Dyed in the Wool color Salty Dog for the yellow. I love that it is yellow and green with a bit of orange, which is just perfect for leaves. The purple is Spinster's Daughter Sport in color Sinopah, which is the most amazing deep purple that captured exactly what I was going for.

This yarn is called Toffee. Deep, rich and caramelly toffee. It's sweet and sticky color warms up any project. It reminds me of Molly Moon's Salted Caramel ice cream.

I was feeling the need for something rich and sweet this week. This color reminds me of Molly Moon’s Salted Caramel ice cream. Which, if you are visiting the Seattle area I totally recommend trying! It’s slightly bitter and you either love it or you hate it. I am in the love it category and could eat it every day!

We have had a heat wave here in the Pacific Northwest, which is unusual for June. I know many of you will laugh, but out here we definitely freak out if it goes over 85F. Which it did on Monday. Thankfully it is cooling back into the 70s and we are likely to see rain again by the weekend. In the meantime this summer burst has me thinking about ways to stay cool and you can’t go wrong with popsicles and shaved ice!

Color of the week: Blue Jay

This yarn is named Blue Jay. It is named after the various jays that visit my yard. Out here in the Pacific Northwest we have both Scrub Jays and Steller’s Jays.

When I lived in Hood River we would see both Steller's Jays and Scrub Jays. Here in the Seattle are we see only Steller's Jays. When I have traveled I have seen many other types of jays. Always in blues, blacks, and grays.

I dyed these balls of Woolly Worsted for Clear Creek Farm's Learn to Knit class kits. The yarn is 100% American Targhee wool grown, processed, and dyed here in the US.

July marks @knotanotherhat’s 20th Anniversary!!! I met Sarah, the incredibly talented Owner and all around awesome person, roughly a month after she opened the store in Hood River, Oregon. I taught my first knitting classes there and dye classes there. We would have these amazing dye and hors d’oeuvres nights. It was so fun! So, in honor of this big time anniversary she has invited me to once again teach a dye workshop, and I just know she will have some extra fun surprises up her sleeve.

As promised, I have a brand new yarn to share with you! Mosaic Bulky is 86% wool with a 14% nylon/poly binder thread. It is so squishy and soft! I want to make a sweater out of it. I think a fun scarf pattern would be excellent as well. Needles #9-11US. Sett suggestion of 8. Hook size J-L. 🧶

I had a lot of fun last week teaching a workshop last week on Visible Mending to the Seaview guild. We talked about different ways to patch items and how to use reverse applique to fix items with holes. Then a little mending of knitwear. One of the members even tried reverse applique using paper, which turned out really cool. Always a pleasure to teach this group!
