A5: both students being bullied and the bullies need attention, support, and love. Students who bully typically do so because they’re in need of support. #teachered #safeschools
A4: the biggest challenge is keeping the focus on education when there’s an HIB issue in the classroom. If students don’t feel safe, it’s difficult for them to focus on learning. And if a teacher is aware of a HIB issue, they can’t focus all their energy on educating.
Definitely! The littles have very different problems
A3: We have regular meetings about HIB with the kids as well as internally.
A2: in my music classes, students are sent home with a code of conduct that we discuss in class and both parents and students sign and return. This is for k-8 and, while the wording is different for the span of ages, the messaging is the same. #teachered #safeschools
A1. Starting at the beginning of the year students are expected to work as a team in music. We learn how to be respectful performers AND audiences. And since we’re typically performing as a group, everyone knows their voice matters
My takeaway is that tech can both add and detract from a classroom setting. It's difficult to ensure students are using it properly and it can become a crutch; however, it also can lead students to collaboration and information that they wouldn't otherwise have. #TeacherEd #EdTech
My communication with families consists of monthly newsletters as well as email communication about important upcoming events. Additionally, each teacher is required to post one time per week to our school's Instagram page so parents can get a glimpse inside the classrooms. #TeacherEd #EdTech
Monitoring students on technology is always a challenge, but with tech such as GoGuardian, it's become easier to make sure students stay on task. #teacherEd #EdTech
Google sheets and docs have become an invaluable tool while collaborating with other teachers. The ability to have a live document that we can work on at the same time is a fantastic way to have discussions without having to be in the dame physical space. #TeacherEd #EdTech
In an elementary music classroom, there aren’t really a lot of opportunities to use technology. Students don’t have laptops, and we focus on making music with instruments and our bodies. However, i have run into issues of students becoming too dependent on the lyrics on the smart board. #edtech
I love that you let them keep things private!!!
In music, I use tech mostly to play games on MusicPlayOnline to reinforce concepts I’ve already taught. Older students get the oppportunity to write their own rap songs with drum and loop tracks on SoundTrap. #TeacherEd #EdTeach
I really feel the most important part of this conversation has been the emphasis on ensuring students understand that the process is the most important part of learning rather than the grade #teachered #growthmindset
A5-I find that the best way to give feedback is in a positive sandwich. By making sure to tell students things they're doing well surrounding something that needs a little improvement, they are able to keep a growth mindset moving forward
I find that, as a parent, one of the things I've struggled with is the lack of ability to revise after assessment!!! My kids will bring home a math test that they didn't do particularly well on and then just move on in class with no opportunity to figure out how to fix what they didn't understand
A4-In a music classroom, there is actually ONLY effort based assessment. Students aren't assessed on the quality of musician they are, but rather are assessed on their work during classes
A3- It's essential to make sure students understand that their effort matters more than if they got the answer correct or not. Motivating students to work hard rather than emphasizing that they got something right helps students gain confidence even when things are hard.
A2- Making sure students understand that the important part is the process rather than the final answer is essential to students having growth mindsets in class
A1-In a music classroom, it's amazing to see the power of "yet" develop in real time when students are struggling with learning music or musical concepts. They are able to see their successes when we get to a concert and they do all of it amazingly! #teachered #growthmindset
