I assumed the Boys in Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer” would be as integral to the song’s narrative as Thin Lizzy’s Boys (the ones who are “Back In Town”) but somehow they only feature in the last line of the chorus?!

But they’re the TITULAR Boys!

@lwflouisa.bsky.social hi! You do beautiful work. I think my friend was added to your Crypto Scammers blocklist by mistake—she works in fundraising for the arts and is vocally against crypto and genAI. I won’t tag her (bc, blocked) but her @ starts with vodkaqueen.

I just think that perhaps senators, who ignore emails with impunity, should perhaps have voicemail options for when their call volume is high rather than directing constituents to “hang up and try later”

I recommend this training from the IDP if you want context for this moment in our country's immigration policy, would like to know how to help, & wants to see what tactics ICE has used in the past & how people have successfully defended their rights:

I had a moment that surprised me before our holiday party at work seeing some people start drinking—really surprised me because after 11 years I almost don’t think about drinking anymore. It can sneak up on you.

Just gave to help Ahmad’s family. If you can give, anything helps.

My husband just said “are you sure you haven’t already had enough tonight” but instead of about alcohol he was talking about hot sauce after I choked on spicy miso soup

I’ve hit an important milestone in my relationship with my mother—the point where she asks me “am I being a b*” and I get to say “noooo you’re 100% right!!”

Was recently informed my husband does in fact read my Bluesky posts and that means he will see me admit that after viewing Gladiator II, unfortunately Joseph Quinn remains a “would”

Did a fun lil calculator in the 529 plan website to see projected cost of college for my 10 month old and it’s $666k 🙃 even if I put $10k into the account now I’d have to contribute 150% of my mortgage every month to hit the goal!

Right after I got up from a nap at my parents’, and just after Rowan went down for his nap, my mom goes “Lau! Rowan was going commando this morning!” And it took me five full minutes to get out of her that she meant he was army crawling.

“Does that mean something different?”

So I’m reading Alan Moore’s new tome on magic and he’s so into the overlap of Kabbalah and Tarot that I got skeptical and decided to do a lil one-card pull to see if learning more about Kabbalah would actually be helpful/indicated for me.

And I pulled The Magician.

Disheartening (if understandable!) when the friend whose plays most regularly have development opportunities says even he might be leaving playwriting behind because of how tough the industry is.

There’s a storm building.

A clash of titans brews on the horizon.

A household’s unity teeters on the brink.

Who will triumph?

(My husband and I spell our son’s nickname differently in text messages)

During a critical annual meeting two coworkers were musing about historical rainfall in Spain and the sheer self-restraint I demonstrated by not asking “was it mainly in the plain?” —

The conundrum of posting: I want to talk about interesting stuff in the world that is not my baby but there’s a baby here all the time and I’m not doing much that’s interesting because of him

If you like queer romance/fantasy with characters who are nuanced and plots that are compelling, you have to check out @freyamarske.bsky.social ‘s work. Just finished Swordcrossed after devouring The Last Binding trilogy and I miss the characters already!

At an event for my work’s LGBTQIA+ group yesterday an 18 year old told us she was going to go to an event that would have “Chappell Roan, if you know who that is” and I would very much like to know how ancient we look to her

I’ve so gotten used to never posting that I forget I could actually post here without regretting immediately. Anyway hi folks! My kid is almost 10 months old and life is so much easier than it was. It would be better if he didn’t frequently wake up for the day at 5am, like today, but still.

Wrote about the practice (and micro-joys) of a clue-walk, which doesn’t need to involve moving at all

Also about Denis O’Hare, delicious surprises, the creative process, not-teaching, and what I learned from my open tabs

It is genuinely life-changing to have my child go from needing to eat every 2 hours (from beginning of feed) to every 3 hours. Happy one month of life, baby!
