I stand with the AMA and strongly oppose the decision by the CDC to end the universal birth-dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine for all newborns. This undercuts a proven strategy that has, for decades, protected infants from a virus that can cause chronic liver disease, cancer, and death.
The Chicago-based American Medical Association is blasting a federal vaccine advisory committee’s decision Friday to no longer recommend that all babies get the hepatitis B vaccine when they’re born.
Chicago-based American Medical Association slams committee’s hepatitis B vaccine recommendations
The government has long advised that babies be vaccinated against hepatitis B right after birth to prevent serious liver damage that can be caused by the infection.

Here’s what’s been on repeat for me this year. From lowering healthcare costs and protecting mental health access, to gun control and public safety, I’ve been listening to YOU. IL-9’s most pressing issues are always on the top of my list.

At the doors in Edgewater, people aren’t just talking about getting coverage, they’re worried about what happens when ACA subsidies expire next month. I've changed these rules before across Illinois, and in Congress I’ll keep pushing to make this system simpler, fairer, and usable.

I've been named one of Illinois’ most effective legislators: standing up against insurance barriers, for accessible healthcare, and against rising costs. We need leaders who understand how to use the law to protect the people of IL-9. That’s exactly what I’m bringing to Congress.

Northwestern should not cave to this administration!

This #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth we reflect on the history and contributions of Indigenous peoples, including the Potawatomi, Ojibwe, and Odawa nations whose homeland include our region. Thanks to Ashbey, Indigenous Wife, Mom and Advocate, and Wayfarer Theaters for hosting the HP Native Market.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. If you’re taking a break from grocery runs and takeout (like I am), would you consider putting a little toward helping our campaign finish November strong?

This Thanksgiving, I was grateful for the opportunity to serve and share a warm meal with the incredible seniors of Niles. Today was filled with smiles, stories, and the reminder that community is truly what makes the holiday season special.

From Skokie to Evanston to Glenview and across the 9th, I’m grateful for the people who make this district feel like home. Wishing everyone a meaningful and restful Thanksgiving. 🧡

“Laura Fine has been a strong stalwart in the Illinois General Assembly for progressive values. She’s thoughtful and reliably effective. She will follow in the great tradition of Sidney Yates and Jan Schakowsky. We need her brand of leadership in the Congress.” George Van Dusen, Former Mayor Skokie

Donald Trump’s threat of political violence is dangerous and unacceptable. Leaders’ words have consequences for public servants, their staff, and the communities we serve. No one in public life should face threats from the President of the United States for doing their job.

Thanks to the Illinois Nurses Association for giving us the opportunity to to come together and talk about what really matters: dignity, safety, and care for every person. And we did it over several rounds of drag bingo by CHI CHI. Because joy, community, and care belong in the same sentence.

Thanks to the 40th Ward Dems for hosting tonight’s candidate fair! I loved meeting residents and hearing directly about the issues they care most about, from healthcare and affordability to environmental protection. I look forward to continuing these conversations to earn their support on March 17.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is a call to action. I came to office 12 years ago believing the government’s job is simple: to protect the vulnerable. My first vote was for marriage equality, why I’ve fought for gender-affirming documents, HIV prevention, and real protections for LGBTQ+ Illinoisans.

Honored to receive the Top Woman Legislator in Leadership Award from the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. For 13 years I’ve fought and delivered for our community, and that’s what I’ll continue doing in Congress.

SNAP is back, but working families across the 9th went weeks without basic necessities because Republicans decided to play politics with people’s food and healthcare.
November 15, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Homeowners are getting hit with insurance hikes while corporations hide the bill. I introduced legislation to make Illinois a leader in challenging these increases. I've passed some of the toughest insurance reforms b/c working families deserve transparency and I’ll fight for the same in Washington.

Higher premiums, higher bills, more pain for families who can’t afford this deal. I’ve never shied away from a fight, and in Congress, I won’t touch a deal that sells out your cost of living.
November 13, 2025 at 5:45 PM
This "deal" will send premiums soaring for families already drowning in medical debt. For Illinoisans making $45,000 a year, your ACA plan could go from $150 to $700 /month. Protecting billionaires is not compromise, it’s a betrayal. I’d vote NO on this disgraceful bill. #holdtheline

Last night I spent time with a great group of Evanston neighbors at Drinking Liberally, a weekly gathering going strong for 20 years. We talked policy, shared stories, and had plenty of laughs. Our best solutions come from real conversations with people who make this community what it is.

Our service members have sacrificed so much for our country. They deserve our deepest respect and unwavering support, today and everyday. This #VeteransDay, join me in taking a moment to thank a Veteran in your life, and honoring those who have served.

I was honored to join the Democratic Party of Evanston in celebrating the leaders who lift up our community. No one embodies that spirit more than @schakowsky.house.gov. Thank you for your decades of service and inspiration.
November 10, 2025 at 1:53 PM
Democrats should never take a deal that screws over Illinoisans and makes healthcare unaffordable. I’ve fought for affordable healthcare in Springfield and won’t surrender in Congress!
November 10, 2025 at 1:56 AM
Unreal. Just when you think this administration has reached a new low, they go searching for another. Cruel and inhumane doesn’t even begin to describe this administration’s apathy towards our most vulnerable.

I am honored to have the support of business owner and Mayor George D. Alpogianis in my candidacy for Congress. Small businesses like Kappy’s keep our community thriving, I can’t wait to continue uplifting our small businesses in the 9th District and across the country. Thank you Mayor Alpogianis!
