I hope so too. Being free, with the stated purpose of preserving art EA shut down, might help stave off lawyers.

EA wasn't exactly huge on attacking modders/fanworks anyway, but under the new Saudi regime... who knows. At least it is open-source so anyone can download it right now and preserve it.

Yup! Sort of. It's an adaptation so no cards and no RNG and no microtransactions, along with small additions to make the narrative more coherent as a gamebook.
