Genome-wide association studies and rare exonic variant analyses supported the association of HMGCR, previously linked to cholesterol metabolism, evidencing the potential of the pathway as a target for treatments. Check it out!

Back in 2020, we showed that variants of the VEGF axis, particularly FLT1 variants, are associated with risk to sepsis-associated ARDS. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

Sepsis develops as a systemic severe response to an infection causing organ dysfunction and is associated with a high mortality rate and long-term sequelae among survivors. The lungs are among the organs more frequently affected, causing acute distress syndrome (ARDS).

By now, it would not surprise anyone to understand that there are host genetic variants governing severe infection outcomes.
