An American Airlines FA told me that each annual meeting banning drinking on flights nearly passes a vote. People will bar hop in airports anyway as you state. Added to this is that many passengers in bars are hopped up on anti anxiety drugs like Xanax because they do not like flying.
One way to research this CNN article would be to interview the half dozen people I saw, earlier this month, drinking beers at the Quaker Steak 'n Lube in Cleveland-Hopkins Airport at 7 a.m. on a Sunday morning.
