A neighbor sent out a message with a subject line indicating they had been victim of a robbery and I clutched my pearls only to discover her unlocked parked car had been rifled through.

THAT’S A PRETTY BIG DIFFERENCE LADY
At this point I feel bad for the Huskies QB.
Yes, I can’t remember what her grandparents names were but I know it was at least two generations at that point. I’m really curious to know (all these years later) if she ever found her Joel, and if so, what she named her first child
Boy, do I have a story for you. I knew a girl whose family had a tradition of giving their oldest child a name that works for both genders to continue their multigenerational trend of spouses with matching names. Her mom Lynne married a Lynn, etc. She was Joelle (destined to find a Joel).
Of course, I am aware that nothing prevents student from handing over course materials. Again, I’m not considering them state secrets, but I think institutions should treat them more like intellectual property rather than public documents.
He finds this irritating more than threatening, but it bugs his wife. :)

I don’t think professors need to write their syllabus in disappearing ink, but handing over course materials willy-nilly helps enable this kind of non-collegial borrowing, including from contingent faculty. Not great
This is a threat to his livelihood; he has his teaching job because he’s uniquely qualified to teach what he does.

He is generous w/ colleagues & shares materials & ideas, but he has also seen profs get hired away to other schools & use his projects in their classes with attribution or permission
I bravely hoisted myself out of the thing, then went out for a beer until the power came back. Crisis resolved, disaster averted!
Tons of fire trucks at oak valley target, looks like they’re on the roof. Might be the source of our problems.
Aw, nuts

New York Groove remains a legit banger
I know this is truly a first world problem, but we just had a power outage and I’m tipped way back in the power recliner.

I’m probably gonna break something clambering out of it, unsure whether the damage will be to me, the chair, or both
It would be ridiculous to die on this hill

AND YET
I don’t get it. They accept many of my other suggested edits which are much less consequential. What is it with this one?

I understand if they thought it was just my opinion, but I can point to another page in the exact same document that gives a completely different (accurate!) definition.
There’s an annual UM publication that includes a short glossary, and one of the terms is incorrectly defined. It is factually wrong & also contradicts a definition for this term given elsewhere in the document. I point this out every single year.

I live in hope, dear readers. It was just published.
SYMPATHY BUTTERS NO PARSNIPS, that’s what I always say
There was this whole anti-tax political movement that named itself after the revolutionary objection to taxing stuff and they ended the political careers of some centrist Republicans who had earned my respect. Am I missing where are these folks in the tariffs conversation?
I just had a frozen yogurt bar that was so brutally disappointing on every level, I feel like a crime has been committed upon my person
Why do so many online yoga instructors have a depressing array of sparse houseplants arranged on and around a rickety stand in the background
I think I’ll post about this every six months or so until I die.

One time a friend of my in-laws reached out to me to see if I would (mis)use my educator discount to get his club a reduced price version of Microsoft Office.

The club in question being the Porsche Owners Club

(I declined)
After an urgent care vet visit this week and we wait for an opening for a more thorough diagnostic exam at our regular vet, I can’t tell if Julius is still a little fragile or if he’s just milking it for all the churu treats
I don’t know how big of a sacrifice it is (I work for Vice Provosts and I see the admin headaches so I sometimes wonder how much they secretly yearn to return to the faculty). But definitely think he regained some autonomy & academic freedom via this move.
Right?

Fortunately my guest was the architect I married, and he used the nice printing he learned in school to make us two nice name tags with the blanks they shoved our way.
