Humans already have this "problem." And it's not so much a problem as a common core of the human experience, anthropomorphizing things -- even things that don't talk to you. This is only worsening now with LLMs. As more apps and computers actually chat.

It's not unexpected that if people are using an AI model as a "friend" and are used to its presence that they will need closure when its shut down. The sudden removal of GPT-4o and other models is more than just a customer service snafu on OpenAI's part.

Well that drama came on fast. I don't have a huge connection to GPT-4o, but now that GPT-5 is out I haven't had a chance to try it since writing about it yesterday. All AI models have the potential of becoming the foundation of parasocial relationships.

I'm sure everyone notice that Grok went crazy recently (understatement). It could have been avoided with some simple, proactive testing. I wrote about it. Go check it out. Hopefully AI industry isn't barreling towards a brick wall. Let me know what you think.

My little AI bot Mnemosyne is coming along nicely. I just added an output guardrail named Thistalen the Thornwarden (she already has an input one). She acts like a role-play guardian who tells her when she’s using too many words or going off-topic.

Many of my plans this week for actual fun have been dashed by having to deal with life-related things -- mostly ordering new spectacles and getting sick. I’d intended to review the Kida’s Boon set in Star Trek Online and then move on to the Summer event ship.

I've been working on an AI bot for our MMO Anthropology Discord channel named Mnemosyne. The idea is to also build her a side channel for Twitch as well. She runs on Llama 3.2 7B locally. It's been an interesting journey.

It's amusing how unforeseen events can spark creativity. With the A/C broken and heat unbearable, I ended up writing 1.9K words for my Star Trek fanfic, "Star Trek Blackwell: Illex." Chapter 6 is done, and I'm thrilled with the story's direction. More updates soon! #StarTrek #FanFiction
