Well a Nikon shooter… 🤣🤣🤣
It’s that sort of attitude that is starting to get to me. Who cares what camera you shoot with, or what genre you focus on … it’s the quality of the shot that matters.
** deep breath** dinosaurs alive and well. 👍 Best Steve
👍 I think such platitudes would have been wasted to be honest. My reaction was to comment that taking a picture of a wall, taking a shot of a re-enactor, compositing them and grunging the image, was both lazy and boring.
For some reason he just walked away to ignore me. 🤔 wonder why? 🤣🤣
It was two separate people to be fair… the judge actually came up to me and asked if my shot was IR … 🤦🏼‍♂️ then the former president of the club made the gimmick comment.
A destructive night .. lost a lot of faith in club photography that night.
Thanks, and I’d agree. If a shot has been taken simply because something looks different in IR, then the criticism is valid. What was so irritating was the fact it was delivered with a certain amount of venom without reference to the nature of the content. I found that unacceptable. 🤔
So, so true. It all depends on context I suppose and what you are trying to achieve. I’d rather challenge my own abilities and if people enjoy what comes out then great. Shame there isn’t an algorithm that can recognise that 🤣🤣
So true. I guess what irritates me, especially in club photography, is that people find a formula to win competitions.. then repeat that forever. Trying something different never occurs or is looked down on 🤬
Tell me about it! 🤔👍
I’m glad I’m not alone in challenging the photo club paradigm… just got to get it over to the judges now. 🤔🤣🤣
To be fair he’s sold all his cameras and is taking everything with an iPhone 16 pro max ….. a different challenge 🤔
Thank you, lots of food for thought. Given that Ansel Adams played around with IR amongst others … you can understand my frustration at the comment. I appreciate the references, it helps. 👍
Thank you for the support, it can be unnerving to have such a senior member of the club challenging your perception like that, especially when you are trying something different. Gives me the confidence to keep developing. 👍
Thank you for the reply, in my irritation I also mentioned ND filters.. at which point the guy simply walked off 🤷🏼‍♂️ . Needed to get this off my chest as I’ve been trying to do something new, and this sort of comment was meant to be destructive.
Serious question for discussion please.
At a recent photo club meeting I was bemoaning the fact that my IR shots were getting low marks in competition. A senior member of the club suggested that IR was a ‘gimmick’.
What are other people’s views on this, is it? #IR #infrared #infraredphotography
A bit retro this one. The first IR shot I took not really knowing what I was doing. Found it in my archives 🤦🏼‍♂️

Thank you, it is! Works brilliantly with water and or stone. But getting a good context shot helps, hence my gravitation towards canals. 👍

I’ll grow into something that beautiful??????
As n additional source of joy, try listening to the live album, ‘Shadows and Light’, where Joni and her band produce wonderful versions of this and the follow-up album, quite stunning
Wonderful album … as an additional slice of joy get your hands on ‘Shadows and Light’ which has live versions of both this album and Hejeria … the way Joni and her band work the songs will blow your mind.
