19 May is Pontian Greek Genocide Remembrance Day, recognizing one of the saddest chapters in our shared human history. It is a good day to revisit Thea Halo’s biographical account of her mother‘s experience: It is a child’s survival story. #pontiangreekgenocide #pontiangreek #greece #theahalo
#OTD passed Nikos Gatsos (Dec 8, 1911 – May 12, 1992), one of Greece’s most cherished poets and lyricists. Renowned poet,Agathi Dimitrouka, Gatsos’ partner, edited the collection of his songs,”Ola ta Tragoudia Mou", published by Patakis. See Harvard’s gatsosarchive.org
“Protomagia”, also International Labor Day, families wander to villages and open fields for picnics. They gather blossoms to make “stefania” crowns to carry a piece of spring back home. These crowns become wreaths on doorways. For many, today will be the first swim of the season.
Καλή Πρωτομαγιά! Wishing everyone a happy May.

ΚΑΛΟ ΜΗΝΑ! Welcome, April. Spring is the perfect time to explore the grounds around the Acropolis. They appear to have been there since the 5th c BCE, but actually designed in the 1950s by Dimitris Pikionis. #acropolis #pikionis #athens #greece

ΖΗΤΩ Η ΕΛΛΑΣ-Happy Greek Independence Day, 25 March 🇬🇷

HYMN TO FREEDOM

Dionysios Solomos (1795-1872)
