‘It was hidden, like swept under the carpet.'

In this short teaser video, housing campaigner @kwajo.bsky.social sat down for an honest conversation with Uche and Victoria about the extra barriers faced by Black people when trying to access a social home.

Great to hear @kwajo.bsky.social speaking so passionately about the housing crisis and the urgent need for everyone to have a decent, safe and secure home at today's @thefabians.bsky.social Housing Mission Summit.

As he says 'homes are our foundation, they are as necessary as food and water.'
“Housing is the biggest crisis we face in this country at the moment”

@kwajo.bsky.social stresses the importance of social housing in ending homelessness
🚨 The nurse of a Stage 4 brain tumour patient reached out as her patient is homeless and Thurrock Council isn’t helping him.

Without temporary accommodation/stable housing he won’t receive the treatment he needs.

'It's a national disgrace - the worst housing crisis we have faced since WWII.'

'160,000 homeless kids in England alone.'

@kwajo.bsky.social tells @matthew-wright.bsky.social that people living in 'slum' conditions are waiting on the government to fulfil its promised housebuilding targets.
If the Treasury fail to provide Angela with the funding needed to deliver enough social homes in the Spending Review, they can wave goodbye to building 1.5 million new homes. A promise made to the country

Worse still, they’ll be condemning an entire generation to a cycle of poverty and homelessness

This investigation took @lucascumiskey.bsky.social months of work – submitting FOI requests and challenging refusals, crunching the data and figuring out how to present it all.

Click through and you can see the data visualised in a few different ways, including geographically.

Labour set a target of 1.5m homes while campaigning in last year's election. Yet it's still refusing to put a number on how many should be for social rent – the type of housing that 1.3m households are waiting for.

🔴 Big exclusive leading Hyphen this morning – data from 119 councils shows half didn't greenlight a SINGLE social rent home in Labour's first six months.

Some of these councils have waiting lists for social housing well over 10k.

@nagsheadestate.bsky.social on the news last night + today. A huge shout out to @kwajo.bsky.social for saying it how it is.

The policies of the last decades have created a housing situation that harms our health but just as these decisions were made, they can be unmade.

Shameful. Even if there is a calculator where your heart should be, the least you have to understand is how much damage this causes to the economy. While the situation is this dire, there is not going to be any growth, there is not going to be a reduction in crime, and the NHS remains broken.
🚨 I spoke to kids from a primary school where 25% of them are homeless, I wanted you to hear directly from them.

Education is the biggest opportunity for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to break free from poverty.

They’re being denied that opportunity.

Housing is the foundation for life, you cannot build nothing on this level of homelessness.

Last training run done before Sunday’s half marathon.

I know I’ve been pestering a lot and I’m SO grateful for so many donations - but if we could make it to £2k before the race, that would be incredible!

It’s for a great cause. Thanks for all the support 🏃‍♂️
