Also crazy how it affects people in different ways. I get a blocked nose and then lose smell for a week. But that has been it so far the four times I had it. When others are on deaths door.

And finally, I’ve not always been a fan of the one-singer finals… but if you get a great singer like Ruth Jacott you can’t go wrong. I’ve only found the Dutch NSF 1993 as a playlist, but it’s deffo worth a watch. 4/5 songs there that would have done well in Millstreet. youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Poland had entered the contest in the 90’s with a bang. Internal selections, and big names. Their first national final in 2003 was a highlight, and some great songs. Blue Café were robbed, and came back a year later with a weaker song but won… youtu.be/H93bUSxrodA?...

As for Melodifestivalen, in general I’d say stick to the eighties and the noughties for the best ones (and 1997 and 1999). If you are looking for domestic hits, not much beats 1986 and 1987 though. (Sweden-only link, I’m afraid). www.svtplay.se/video/jnGdYq...

The UK’s finals have also always been a mixed offering. The BBC would make a huge effort for a couple of years, only for them to kinda fade out, and repeat. In the mid-90s they were in a making-an-effort-phase, but then started only letting half the songs into the final 🤯 youtu.be/nE7LofY21lA?...

Såg just att Ultra Bra (favvo finskt band) körde Shanghain valot (favvo finskt mellolåt) på en festival idag. Samma låtskrivare men inte deras låt. Jag kommer DÖ av lycka om de också kör den på sin spelning på Olympiastadion i augusti. DÖ, i tell ya 😍😍😍😍😍
