The non-baseball fans and the casual fans all came back and watched the World Series with enthusiasm. While the outcome might have been disappointing for some, it was a rare unifying moment for our country. So, thank you to the Jays. And, yes, even the Dodgers.

Personal experiences aside, even I have begrudgingly accepted this and have begun to give them their due.

On another note, over the last week, Canadians across the country became galvanized in their support of the @torontobluejays.bsky.social .

Envy has only grown among fans who watch the successes and wish their own favourite team could do the same. You can loathe the Dodgers for making the playing field unbalanced, but they have a well-run, smart organization.

- and a primary reason that baseball could be headed for a lockout.

I can't blame a player for choosing the Dodgers. The L.A. location is ideal, and the team has one goal: to win. The players know that the team will do whatever it takes to accomplish this goal.

My dislike only heightened with the infamous "Blue Monday" game against my beloved @montrealexpos.bsky.social

In recent years, I, along with many others, have become envious watching the Dodgers outbid teams for top talent. They have become, in the view of many, the new 'evil empire' -

The Los Angeles Dodgers: Love 'em or Loathe 'em

I have a long-standing 'relationship' with the Dodgersβ€”mostly negative. My sour experiences at West Palm Beach with ex-manager T Lasorda and ex-player P Guerrero when I was in my early 20s left a lasting impression on me.

It's October 1981. You just finished your first major arena tour, in support of your first #1 album and first Top 10 single. Years of hard work have finally paid off. Your record company recognizes a rising star when they see one. So what's next?

"Who Killed the Montreal Expos?"

For individuals such as myself, a singular viewing, driven by curiosity, is probably all the heart can handle.

6/6
But when a family breaks up, sometimes you never really heal.

The docu possesses significant historical value. I would recommend it to younger baseball fans interested in understanding the profound impact of "nos Amours" on the city, province, and country, when they truly were Canada's team.

5/6
On a personal level, the docu reminded me of the times I often met Gary Carter, Moises Alou, Cliff Floyd, Rondell White and other players in and around Montreal. They were part of the reason that for a time the Expos took over the Habs in my heart. They felt like family.

But the hard news drives the story. It outlines numerous potential factors contributing to the Expos' dissolution, with each party presenting their own perspective. With a lot of finger pointing.

Residing in Calgary & being away from the center of the turmoil has been beneficial, but 20 years later, the pain hasn't diminished.

The docu revived some of the happier memories: the great late 70s, early 80s successes, the euphoria of making the playoffs, and having the best team in 1994. 2/6
"Who Killed the Montreal Expos?"

Well, I watched it. I thought that after two decades, the emotional impact would have lessened. No such luck. Instead, for about 1 1/2 hrs, a significant flood of memories, good and bad, were brought back. 1/6

Celebrating "Love Is the Answer" by England Dan & John Ford Coley

Their polished, radio-friendly version contrasted with the original and ultimately became more recognizable. The song has maintained its appeal and continues to resonate in pop culture.

Written by Todd Rundgren and performed by Utopia in 1977, the original was eclectic in style. The cover by England Dan & John Ford Coley introduced it to a wider audience during their peak popularity in the 1970s.

@mitchmelnick.bsky.social Last night in Calgary with my son and daughter. One day early birthday present from my son.
While I might not cheer for "Canada's Team," my heart goes out to the true fans who have stood by them through thick and thin. I also congratulate the team on their League Championshipβ€” it’s a significant achievement and well-deserved. I will be an impartial viewer of the LA-TOR World Series.

- especially if you knew some of the backroom dealings and the Jays organization's involvement in the Expos' demise. Β

When it comes to sports, emotions can really complicate things, and I understand how challenging that can be. I found that out firsthand.

This event signaled the beginning of the franchise's struggles and eventual doom.

Once MLB pulled the Expos, the Jays faced no competition in Canada. They essentially held the entire country’s support. If you were a Mtl'er or an ex-Mtl'er of a certain age, it was easy to feel resentment -

5/7
When the Jays won the World Series in the early '90s, I felt a twinge of envy; the Expos should have been the first non-American team to claim a championship. In 1994, the Expos were the best team in baseball, but everything was taken away due to the season-ending strike.

4/7
While many Mtl'ers took a hard line and said goodbye to baseball, even a move across the country couldn’t lessen my love for the game or my affection for the team.Β Β

The Jays' inaugural season was in 1977, 8 years after the Expos. An instant rivalry for the country's affection was fueled.
