I love the light playing on this fallen tree trunk at Ffynone Waterfall.
Another view of the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy in September just before a storm rolled in. Really liked the light that day with the sunlight highlighting the foreground and the darkness of the approaching storm.

Congratulations to our award winners this evening, and thank you to everyone who attended to celebrate with them!

Thank you also to the Society of Wildlife Artists for their generosity in allowing us to hold our award ceremony on the opening night of the Natural Eye exhibition at Mall Galleries!
Here be Dragons!!
A primeval looking Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo).
Autumn colours. The changing seasons seen in the colour of the leaves turning from green to brown and the copper tint of the Horse Chestnuts (also known as Conkers).
There is a feeling of belonging and stillness walking through an old established woodland. Lichens and moss hung from every available branch and water dripped from the leaves after a rain shower.

The Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy, Pembrokeshire, is a disused slate quarry. Even though it was mid-morning, the light was spectacular with a rain storm coming in off the sea providing an imposing backdrop to the colour of the sea with the sun highlighting the cliffs and ruined quarry buildings.
Ffynone Waterfall. According to folklore is the gateway to Annwfn (The Otherworld) and the meeting place of King Pwyll and King Arawn where they swap places for a year to right a wrong.
It is a very enchanting place.
Having missed the lunar eclipse of the Harvest Moon on the 7th September because of the weather, I ventured out the following evening to capture the moonrise above the Teifi valley.
Rainbow over the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy, Pembrokeshire on 8th September.
Female Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula). The brilliant yellow eye reflected in the water contrasts against the dark brown plumage on this small diving duck.

Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea) returning with a Sandeel. Sandeels are a vital food for many seabirds including the Arctic Tern, Kittiwake as well as the Puffin. The ban on Sandeel Fishing in UK waters should help ensure healthy stock of this food source.
Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea) hovering as it prepares to land. This was a very wet day with heavy rain even though it was mid-June.

Late evening visit to Holwell Reserves near Melton Mowbray. The sun setting through the trees, birds singing. From a former ironstone quarry to a peaceful landscape, it's amazing how nature can reclaim a landscape given the time.

Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) lit by the setting sun.. Being on a boat, late evening off the Isles of Scilly, I had to handhold at high ISO.
Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) feeding in the setting sun with the sunlight glinting off the splashes of water.
Robin (Erithacus rubecula) perched quite obligingly outside the hide in the forest at Kirroughtree.
A Pied Wagtail (Motacilla alba) and one of it's chicks on the dam at Swithland Reservoir. These are such characterful little birds with seemingly boundless energy.
