Area man saddened to discover the work he’d been procrastinating on is still there.
Voted and survived the ~6ish total hours of driving. Yay for democracy!
I have to drive a few hours home after my class today because I forgot to request an absentee ballot lmao. And then drive back pretty much right after I’m done lol.

i’m sorry i just learned that kentucky voters are calling the ky secretary of state to ask why there’s no voting today and he’s like: there are no elections in kentucky and you cannot vote for mayor of nyc or governor of virginia

US friends remember to go vote today if you haven’t already !! Local elections are still very important!!
I didn’t realize that was coming up this month, it’ll probably be what I try to save up for when it eventually ends up on EN.

After Silver’s club wear card… I’m very excited to see what they do with Riddle’s.
Are you me? That was me a while ago, although less octatrio and more Floyd and Riddle. I’ve switched from spider solitaire to sudoku recently though.

Although I may need to knock it off again if I end up seeing the games every time I close my eyes (this is why I can’t play minesweeper anymore 😔)
-students with disabilities that impact areas like math, writing, etc. who use these tools as part of their accommodations. They have those accommodations for a reason and those must be respected and honored.
Writing is also really important for fine motor development among other things. And with the rise in AI in classrooms, some schools are returning to having students write things by hand, and for some students that’s a real struggle.

To be clear, I’m speaking broadly. These things do not apply to-
Also things like learning to type, while also an important skill (something that I myself struggle with, I had typing classes in middle school but really struggled with it and got frustrated trying to learn, so I still don’t type properly), doesn’t and shouldn’t replace writing things by hand.
It worries me as a teacher the amount of technology we’re putting in early elementary school though. While I believe digital literacy is a vital skill and something that really does need to be taught early, that’s not necessarily what we’re even doing with the technology present in the classroom.
Knowing how and when to use a calculator is a skill in its own right for some more complex math areas. But it doesn’t and shouldn’t be used as an excuse or reason for not teaching basic math skills.
This. While yes, everyone in this day and age has a calculator in their pocket, it doesn’t replace comprehension of grade-level concepts. The purpose of these types of technology are to assist you later when you have an understanding of the basics so that you can then move on to more complex tasks.
I mean, when I was going to school they in fact banned calculators in early math classes when they were teaching you basic arithmetic and that was the right choice.
It’s good to have math skills but
that’s… definitely excessive.

I never made it to calculus; I failed pre-calc in high school and then didn’t take a math class again until college where I did a teaching elementary math course and then a statistics class, which I enjoyed.
