Have people forgotten that there is an abyss between MoralMajority/TeaParty/FundyChristian/MAGA/HeritageSociety Republicans and the Republican Party Mr. Nichols started his career in? Four decades ago it was possible to find a Republican with integrity and values aligned with America. 🤦🏻♀️Geez.

And vice versa. The Democrat I worked for in the State House had two close friends who were both GOP members - one was Andy Card - and they would razz me about being a nice Republican boy working for the Dems. But they were kidding: they knew and liked and respected my boss, as did I.
Growing up in MA, I remember a time when people had mostly civil discussions at town hall, the Lions Club, church, holiday parties, sports events, local restaurants, etc in spite of policy differences. Republicans were not demonized by my liberal parents.
