I believe strongly anymore that it is the responsibility of every denizen of the Internet to keep it cool, human, and to make it weird wherever possible. The past days of the computer being cool might be behind us, but that doesn't mean that we can't carve out cool niches today, imo

Now is not the time to shrink and be invisible. Be loud, be weird, and be highly intellectual about it.

Everywhere I look online now, I see more people getting into experimental painting. Hyper-niche stuff like building 3d imaging programs so they can paint directly onto a mesh by way of a camera/canvas to transport to a UV, or painting to perfectly blend a canvas into a shot of a field.

I love how when I discuss Demon Slayer, if I describe a character as Michael Jackson everyone knows immediately who I’m talking about

The internet is a bunch of social websites, games, and platforms that people inhabit and form mental connections between due to friendships and memories made within all of those places. It can never be just one unified platform and that's a good thing.

There have been meetings, concerts, art galleries, panels, and plays happening in virtual worlds for decades now. Decades! One company's platform cutting funding doesn't mean the other platforms and games out there don't exist.

It's all the internet and it will continue to be there.

This statue has had such a long history. I remember the hype about it first coming to town. I knew it had placement issues but I just remember seeing it at temp spot. I also don’t believe I saw the finished version.
The bronze statue depicting the eponymous cybernetic star of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 set-in-Detroit sci-fi satire was installed in Eastern Market on Wednesday, nearly 15 years after someone proposed it in a viral social media post.

A raccoon broke into a liquor store, trashed a bunch of bottles, and then passed out in the bathroom. I had to double check the source to be sure this was real. www.wtvr.com/news/local-n...

Do we have any more people who are at the intersection of fine art and XR around here? I’d like to follow more folks in this field.
