Packing for the lake, I scribbled myself a note to remember the stretchy elastics I use for physical therapy. Forgot all about it and later found a folded note in my pocket that said “Find Resistance Bands”. So. Know any? today? I’ve got nothing since CSN&Y except Carsie Blanton.

So fun fact, apparently if you leave an ice cream spoon on the edge of the bathtub, within 24 hours a line of ants will appear from nowhere marching single file and make a civilization about it.

Don’t judge me. It’s been a long week.

Here is why comparison is the thief of joy. You need friends who are smarter than you, braver than you, who do what you want to do, only better. Be inspired to stretch and reach and challenge yourself. You can’t do that if you are always measuring yourself as coming up short.

It was time to leave FB, and I stayed. I rationalized: it was my link to local libs, my friends, my sanity. But the fact is, I moved a firm boundary to stay connected. Hard question: what would you tolerate just to keep your cellular, WiFi, streaming, Bluetooth? When’s the last time you did without?

I may be “needs a little stool in the hoop house” years old. A bionic hip apparently does not make me wonder woman. Happy to play in the dirt and hear rain on the roof at the same time.

Maybe anxiety is just urgency with no outlet. My choices these days: 1.) physically work myself to exhaustion, or 2.) bungle through daily adult tasks like I’m on a deadline and getting a C- in life. Is it too late to cut the soles off my shoes, sit in a tree, and learn to play the flute?

💥🇭🇺 Police have given up guarding Budapest’s Liberty Bridge as anti-government protesters shut down traffic on four major bridges, rallying against Viktor Orbán’s new law curbing freedom of assembly and banning the Pride march.

They vow to escalate with a 24-hour shutdown next week.

My fanciest grandmother had ivory colored monogram-embroidered linens and towels as thick as fur. I am less fancy. But my mismatched, multicolored and threadbare bath towels include at least three with the sharpied name of whichever of my now-grown children was off to scout camp. So I’m good.

For Women's History Month, may we all remember and summon the courage of Rachel Carson, who wrote Silent Spring to inform the world what DDT was doing to the songbirds, raptors, and by extension, us. While battling cancer, she stood her ground against savage attacks by the chemical industry...

Communication (thus information) is not only easy to filter, it can also be turned off completely. Not just by satellites built to kill other satellites, but now by Elon, who threatens Ukraine with Starlink denial. What happens when cell/wifi/TV/connectivity becomes the “or else“ for us all?

“Pace yourself”, people say, “it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon”. But the truth is, it’s a relay. You do your best for as long as your energy holds, and then hand it off to the next person, and rest. Exhaustion is bad strategy. We take turns making a difference and the cause keeps moving forward.

Settling into a new normal. Second Saturday social action group this morning with the button machine, then handing out RESIST pins to strangers while waiting in lines at the annual Seed Swap. Came home with big ideas, a bag of seeds and a fig scion to root. Also: can we rename the musk melon?

Yes, the Finch app reminds me to drink water and stretch and do laundry, and I found tools in there like a focus timer and guided chair yoga. But the art is bad, the vibe baby-cutesy, and I’m not motivated by shopping. Would it be too much to ask for a nice crow? Collecting haunted artifacts maybe?
