A good question to which I don’t have an answer that begs yet another question. Best I can do is think that foreign policy was always the prerogative of the monarch and maybe an independent FSec was an anomaly while it lasted, and now the power’s back with the executive

St George was, I think, from the Middle East! The English have a weird relationship with that flag. Because they’re the biggest bit of 🇬🇧 they (well, we) haven’t had to build a strong regional identity because we’re usually the ones the others are defining themselves against.
