This has lots of David Brin's The Postman vibe to it.

Indeed - also buy two fish bowls and place on your desk. Fill one with circus peanuts, the other with black licorice Maintain eye contact with co-workers whilst slowly filling them piece by piece.

The difficulty will be the weather and you'll need one that has a location that is in darkness during the time of the class. Also looking at the moon and planets is very different than looking at deep sky objects, that usually requires different cameras.

Not all that weird - the Ramapo fault is probably Jersey's biggest (it runs down into PA and up into NY) and we get occasional jolts from it. A few years ago a small fault about a mile south of where we live shifted and caused quite a rumble. We had a 4.8 Earthquake in Tewksbury NJ last year.

Yup we do get them in New Jersey. Not very often but they happen. Didn't feel this one at all in Morris County (only about 25 miles from epicenter)

This is very much like the way people viewed electricity when it arrived in useful form for the masses: Everything could be cured using it!
An old newspaper ad from the early 20th century showing an electrical device of some kind in a box with two handles attached to cords coming from it; the caption reads "CURE YOURSELF BY ELECTRICITY if you suffer from neuralgia, constipation, nervousness, headache..."

When he announced, what, a few months ago, that Starship would go to Mars by the end of 2026 I laughed out loud.
