This piece is “Adornment” from my 2023-24 series, “Bright Curiosities”. Adornment” is a 12x12 inch original watercolor painting with vintage beads, sequins, and handstitching on watercolor paper. The background is a deep green with looping brushstrokes in watercolor. Ivory and red splashes and lines build movement and character to the background. The foreground is a small stitched circle with beadwork and glittering sequins. This piece is by abstract California artist Kat Furtado and is currently residing in the private collection of the artist.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

I am reading “Little Women” with my girls. It opens up the floodgates for me, as I have read it so many times in my life that I know parts almost by heart.

Watercolor portraits help me sort my feelings. Lately, digital watercolor has been doing the same thing. The layers seem to break open the fear I have been working through. The washes of color soften painful thoughts.
