It wasn’t much, but it was hers. A memento of sorts, as unnerving as that may be, tucked into the recesses of her drawer. She admired it before retiring for the evening—its delicate ridges, its weighty hook—and wondered, yet again, how this came to be, how she was the one with the talon. #WriteCBC

It’s strange, I think, how the parchment is torn along the seam. Too tidy, too predictable. Why not along the river, cast with wide and messy brush strokes? Why not among the bleeding clouds? Why must this tear be so straightforward when all else he’s left behind is not? #WriteCBC
