A fire ant got stuck between my foot and sandal and stung the hell out of me and now my foot's been hurting for hours.
Divided and moved the artichokes. Hopefully they don't mind too badly. It wasn't the best prepared bed but everybody got a handful of worm castings, some nutri rich fertilizer and then a sip of very dilute fish emulsion.
The dang heavy duty ranch hose I bought in May of '24 is already starting to fail where the hose meets the connector. Uggggggggh.
I was good and swiss darned the sock before it wore through. It took about two hours.
My favorite git commit message: ugly but it works.
The coyotes have been pretty active lately. Lots of howling in the evening. They sounded further away tonight.
The horned owl is back.
Dog wandered off while husband was working on the Sequoia. After a frantic search and a hike into the open desert next to the house, she just trots up into the yard wagging her tail happy as can be. I think we need dog gps.
Some not dinner. Dang swype.
Ate dinner chard from the garden for breakfast. First bit out of the official fall garden.
Cancelled leaf peeping trip to Eastern Sierra for this week. The Sequoia needs suspension work. We should be in the mountains freezing our asses off and eating pine nuts right now.
Why are tortilla chips so dang good?
I did not spicy preserves with the last box of peaches. These are going to get sliced and frozen or canned.
Got all my hardy greens seeds in. Waiting to put in lettuce and mache because it's still too hot.
I have another half bushel of peaches on deck for preservation and I ordered another half bushel of Anaheim chiles for delivery next Saturday to roast peel and freeze. Garden is going in slowly but surely. Looking forward to lovely food in the winter.
I live in the desert. There are not supposed to be mosquitos here. With the storms in the last couple weeks, the mosquitos have come out. I am so itchy. It's all benadryl and plantain salve for me tonight.
The artichokes are sprouting from their roots! I cut back last year's growth the other day and now we're growing again.
Jam jars are out of the canner and lids are popping!
There is still time to put another order in for fruit, but boy howdy do I want to do more work?
Now I'm down to my last 5 peaches and maybe a pound of Anaheim chilies and I don't think I've done enough. I didnt even do peaches in syrup and the bags of roasted chiles in the freezer seem like they won't even last til Christmas.
Then all of a sudden the peaches were ready which culminated in a fresh peach pie and some fruit that is macerating in sugar to become jam today.
