All of the Israelis held by Hamas are called “hostages,” including the IDF soliders.

All the Palestinians released, though, are “prisoners,” including the many victims of Israel’s widespread arbitrary detention - meaning they are legally innocent, detained without charge or conviction.

Lots of people spreading disinformation today that there’s some nefarious reason no female hostages were released.

It’s literally just because women, child n and men over 50 were released under a previous ceasefire deal.

CNN World article excerpt reads: “The hostages who are believed to be alive are all men and all but one are in their 20s and 30s. Women, children and men over the age of 50 were released under previous ceasefire agreements.”

And for the record, Palestinians in Israeli detention are also hostages. Most of them were kidnapped for no reason, never charged or convicted with due process, and many of them are children. Stop applying double-standards to Palestinians. It further dehumanizes and diminishes them.

It’s a bittersweet day. So many lives have been stolen and there has been so much devastation and destruction.

I’m happy that so many families are being reunited today, but I also feel like we’re in the eye of the storm right now. Something doesn’t feel right.
