Before the Mexican Revolution foreigners were treated as an elite class over Mexican citizens. Malena’s indigenous mother ended up marrying a Spanish man, mixing Malena’s heritage. In fact, this is the history of my own family. I have both indigenous and colonizer blood in me.

Rafael’s family is traditional but loving. Like most Mexican households, there are many generations living together. Rafael is a firstborn son and therefore favorited. Which is why I had to take it all away 😈
