9yo has discovered anime in the form of Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba. Wanting to be a good steward of my children's entertainment, I looked it up. Language and violence. So nothing she hasn't been exposed to already by her mother and American media.

If the helmet was more armored, it could be a MechWarrior's outfit from BattleTech. A lot of the artwork in the '80s and '90s consists of combat boots, a massive neurohelmet, and very little in between.

Steam's Autumn Sale is on and so many games I've been eyeing are on sale: MW5 Clans + Ghost Bear for $35, Ixion or Front Mission 1st $12, Frostpunk 2 $30... Or I could spend nothing and continue playing Minecraft.

I got dry-eye so many times as a teenager playing those games, refusing to blink for fear of missing a trick or a turn. I was still pretty bad at them.

I'm fortunate to live in a fairly quiet town of middling wealth with decent quality schools. It's not perfect, but it's nice to raise a family.

Tonight, I finally saw an unhoused person sleeping in the open, on the steps of a nearby church.

If that's not a sign of the times, I don't know what is.
