TIFF’s reputation is not as a bastion of curatorial integrity but rarely do you see a flat admission of this sort of favouritism.
I have to say, I was not expecting a relatively candid admission that the film “just didn’t make the cut” in the first instance and that
Avrich was able to demand a second look, explicitly resulting in the CEO overriding the programming staff.
If a player contacts the ball twice in the process of striking a penalty, it has to be re-taken. As Mead slipped, she must have been deemed to have contacted the ball more than once.

This message might be more effective had you not characterized Trump’s lawless assault on non-citizens as a “distraction.”

Any one of the "11,000 global members with diverse viewpoints" who cannot condemn the physical assault of a filmmaker does not belong in the Academy. This is a woefully insufficient response, literally worse than silence.
AMPAS has issued a new statement that basically says: “we will continue to say nothing.” they don’t even bother mentioning Hamdan Ballal — an Oscar winner!!! — by name.
“The people here deserve to live peaceful lives. They have a right to feel safe.”
His remarks also included a plea to Canadians to exert political pressure against the Israeli government.
Hamdan Ballal recorded a video for our February community screening of NO OTHER LAND in Toronto, lamenting increasing settler violence, including four attacks on his own home.

One of the co-directors of NO OTHER LAND, Hamdan Ballal was beaten by Israeli settlers and seized by Israeli soldiers from the ambulance Ballal called, per co-director Yuval Abraham. No one knows where Ballal is. (Ballal is second from right in the below photo.)
Absolute facts; not even close.
Sense might yet prevail?? Thanks for the update!
Wish there was a also a concerted effort among Canadian free speech advocates to seek accountability from TVO with respect to its suppression of RUSSIANS AT WAR…

Truly! Particularly after the backlash to Glazer’s speech last year, I’d kept my hopes low. But you sense the recent effort to bring more international members into the Academy really had an impact here.
For Toronto folks!

Tomorrow’s free screening has gone rush but any empty seats will be made available 15 minutes before show time!

It’s a big cinema (650 seats) so I want to say chances are decent! 🤞🏽
Finally, on Friday, Feb 7, it’s the For Viola presentation of NO OTHER LAND.

At latest count, we’ve had over 300 tickets booked, which puts us on pace to sell out pretty soon.
