cool fact, my self-hosted PDS is ~500 microseconds away from my apartment over the internet and that PDS is ~500 microseconds away from its S3 endpoint where my blobs live

this is compared to the ~67-75ms jump from my apartment to bsky's US-east PDSs

the site is a LOT snappier for me now :)

I'm spending probably 4x less $ with Claude Code 2 / Sonnet 4.5 than I was prior, with no noticeable change in performance

This first release is all about a crafted, focused writing experience - free and enjoyable on its own.

Paid extras like custom skins are on the way, but the base app is meant to stand strong by itself.

Along the way, it picked up a new name. It was originally called Monotype, but apparently the big type foundry "Monotype" is known for ruthlessly suing infringements 😅

"Retrotype" feels better anyways 😄

Retrotype actually began as a little SwiftUI macOS experiment. What started on desktop slowly grew into something I wanted to carry everywhere - so I rebuilt it from scratch in React Native for iOS and iPad, with automatic macOS support for Apple Silicon
Android also coming soon
