And now we see the astronomical pay rises they awarded themselves. The CAMHS workers who are stretched to the max and spend most of their time at the urgent end of mental health for our young can only dream of these salaries.

By the end of this Parliamentary term, an ordinary MP's salary will be $181,200. The prime minister's salary will be $520,000 and the deputy prime minister's will be $369,800. It isn't as if we get value for these salaries but they obviously think they are worth it.

This government is excellent at choosing the opposite of what is needed in New Zealand - from workers rights and pay, health, housing, education, environment.. I'm blown away at just how detrimental they are to the wellbeing of so many Kiwis.

There isn't a single decision that makes sense, not one.

Is this what they think is holding the country back? In every issue they take the worst option.

I would prefer a black heart option - I love that you are sharing this info but hate the content. The red heart doesn't feel right for many posts I want to acknowledge. It is sickening how this CoC addresses environmental issues.

And how he will manage the increase in migrants when they cancel the environmental polices to appease his fossil fuel donors.

There are candidates running in 2025 local elections who are associated with Voices for Freedom. However, the group encourages its affiliates to stand as independents and not declare any VFF link, making it hard for the public and authorities to easily identify them. Do your due diligence people.

They are doing this in Finland - with Housing First initiative, started in 2008. This program leads to cost savings for society—up to €15,000 per housed person per year—by reducing use of emergency services and policing.

In the UK house price-to-wage ratio (hours required)
1970s: £5,000 ÷ £0.90 = 5,556 hours

2024: £284,950 ÷ £11.44 = 24,900 hours

Minimum wage required today to match the 1970s ratio
£284,950 ÷ 5,556 = £51.32 per hour
julieinnz.bsky.social
To maintain the same house-price-to-wage ratio as in the 1970s in New Zealand, today’s minimum wage would need to be $910,479 ÷ 24,367 = $37.37 per hour.

Police arresting the old, & those with disabilities, knowing they will be put on social media, makes me wonder about their reasoning. Is there a chance some are identifying protesters who will elicit the most sympathy, highlighting the awfulness of the government's decision on Palestine Action?

They made a choice & they have borrowed more, so we are further in debt & the outcome is there are many more people in hopeless situations. They implemented austerity policies that impacted the vulnerable & results in record numbers leaving the country. They work for their donors & lobbyists.

It's a dire situation, if funds allocated for tax breaks had been invested in social housing, healthcare, community or welfare services, it could have better supported those facing homelessness, financial hardship, & health inequalities.

All fired up by the likes of Reform, who will get votes because of their anti-immigration stance & who will repeal environmental policies that will result in so many more people looking to move & apply for asylum due to food insecurity & displacement.

It's a good analogy of the entire administration; a lush, historic garden symbolizing growth, tradition, & careful cultivation to an ugly, unforgiving concrete area.

Gov said this increase is not down to their policies: unemployment up 33,000 from 2yrs ago, PEOPLE moved out of emergency housing but not sure where they went, cancelled new builds, cost of living continuing to rise, so I'm going to keep thinking this is firmly down to them - they just don't care.

I have worked in the health and disability sector for 15rs & 10yrs in mental health before that; I have never seen so many families at breaking point, and there are less community supports that we can offer to help. My colleagues are reporting the same.

Looking further into the 80%pay inc for board chairs for Crown entities and find that the expected average workload for most board chairs remains approximately 140–150 hours per year, or roughly 2.7–3 hours per week. And Chris Bishop wants to vilify nurses for wanting better conditions - GFY.

The gov stated this was to attract talent to roles overseeing large public assets & services. This came into effect from July 1, 2025. Thanks National - you are so predictable.

While nurses strike for better pay don't forget the 80% pay inc that mainly affects chairs & board members of certain Crown entities, autonomous Crown entities, & tertiary ed bodies. E.g.the top annual fee for chairs could rise to $160,000 from $90,000.
