The debate on investments into our #energytransition is often misinformed by simple slogans like 'we can't afford net-zero'. I believe the opposite...

Britain canโ€™t afford to delay its green energy transition
Stalling our transformation of the grid will only harm the environment, raise costs, and risk jobs

Very well researched piece by UCL - Wind power has cut ยฃ104bn from UK energy costs since 2010.

The only answers to better energy security and overall lower energy costs are more wind power and renewables - implemented in a way that allows for a just transition.

Reduction comes from energy generated from windfarms and lower cost of gas owing to lower demand

I went to a Leeds comp school in the 70s/80s and experienced #racism and #homophobia daily. I was so happy about the progress we made and the much happier country I lived in - until a recent return to the bad old days.
Thanks @wesstreeting.bsky.social for calling this out.

At last the Impact of Brexit is being called out

โ€œWhen we left the European Union we left the Dublin Convention & that means where as before we could have returned people to the continent, back to the first safe country they arrived in, that doesnโ€™t exist anymoreโ€

Thrilled to be back in #Hull discussing local supply chain opportunities in #renewableenergy. The Humber's potential is immense! Engaged with Mayor Luke Campbell & Simon Green of Humber Freeport. Looking forward to @greatbritishenergy.bsky.social helping engineer more new green energy in the UK!
We are making incredible progress on driving the #energytransition although you wouldn't think so from the increasingly polarised debate. My latest thoughts on this topic in this @vocluk.bsky.social vlog ๐Ÿ‘‡

This is a very powerful read - if you want to hear what it feels like to live on our UK streets right now. As Alex @sturdyalex.bsky.social says, we hear daily about the 'legitimate concerns' of people against less represented groups, but rarely hear this

NOTHING will prepare you for this 45-second story arc. From "I'm just doing this because I love the flag, it's totally grassroots, and I'm not part of anything political"... to who actually gave him the flags the night before.

Anyone who believes it is an innocent movement needs to see this.
Well done to the MPs from Labour and Libdems who have spoken up about this act - of what would be economic vandalism from Reform.

It's a shame that our media isn't challenging this more, but let's make sure we challenge and have a more balanced debate here.

Feeling very #European in #Manchester this evening at this reception for #EU Ambassadors - visiting to foster links at cultural, citizen, and political level. It seems that slowly we will edge back to the things we took for granted and now miss because we are all European and have lots in common.
Congratulations Dan McGrail!

Very much looking forward to working with you as we create and scale the publicly owned @greatbritishenergy.bsky.social company, and all the jobs and clean power we will help generate ๐Ÿ‘‡
It has been great to be back in #Aberdeen this week for our second #GreatBritishEnergy board meeting.

Great to learn about the many supply chain companies growing into clean power growth technologies, and also to hear about the challenges we need to help unlock many more such opportunities.
At #RUKGOW25 today, and as SOS, Ed Miliband said in his speech today, this industry has in 15 years gone from being in the margins, to being in the mainstream of UK industrial and economic policy. 32,000 people now work in UKs offshore wind sector alone and this is set to grow rapidly.
Today's agreement with the #EU is not a betrayal as our ever more headline hungry media is reporting, but level headed economic sense. Above all, it resets vital relations with our key trading and security partner - much needed in this evolving global landscape. Congratulations to #UK and EU.
Exciting - Our journey to becoming a publicly owned #cleanpower company truly start today!

We will embrace the responsibility that comes with this to accelerate clean power generation and boosting economic growth and jobs in our key coastal industrial regions.
We packed a lot into this podcast and it really was enjoyable to be able to be positive about 'the opportunity of our lifetime' as we deploy our new, more ambitious #cleanpower strategy - especially with all the negativity and divisive gotcha-driven headlines in our media ๐Ÿ‘‡

I think we need both. This investment is specifically to make sure we create as much local value and jobs as we develop and build more clean power. There is a separate focus on 'warm homes' that allocates funding for more energy efficiency measures, e.g. insulation.
