At some point do “free speech” advocates plan to notice the resurgence of decades-old bigotries and consider reflecting on the failure of their basic premise that more speech produces truth? (Assuming they don’t believe the decades-old bigotries actually are truth, which some clearly do think.)

No, I don’t apologize for blocking letters when referring to slurs.

Intoning slurs isn’t the sign of free speech maturity that “free speech” advocates think it is.

When they’re more infuriated by circumspection toward bigoted words than they are at the bigotry itself, they unmask themselves.

“Free speech” advocates need some serious soul-searching about why their movement has become utterly obsessed with a craving to spout “n****r,” “f*****t,” and other slurs with absolutely no consequences.

Does Volokh double down on his petulant extremism that castigates professors as incompetent if we do not deliberately intone slurs and epithets in the classroom in order to “desensitize” Black and queer students to the hate speech that, in his apparent view, they have never previously encountered?

But the past decade+ of “cancel culture” bloviating from across the political spectrum wasn’t aimed at defending class hierarchy. It was aimed at defending white supremacy and anti-queer bigotry first and foremost.

If only Cato hadn’t revved up the fake “cancel culture” moral panic over Black and queer kids resisting hate speech. Yes, yes, how dare they tell their friends that a half-dead comedians ‘70s-era jokes are bigoted and unfunny. They’re required to fund and fawn over their own dehumanization! 🤮

I endured the bad with the good for years.

Then instead of listening to criticism of their anti-trans opinion and news coverage, they tried to smear the executive director of GLAAD.

That arrogant bigotry was the last straw. I’m not subsidizing this publisher and this editor.

From the Museum: Part of the Green Mountain Range, Haystack Mountain is located near Wilmington, in the far southern center of Vermont. The highly precise sense of draftsmanship with which Asher B. Durand renders the foliage surrounding his lone hiker and dog, as well as the texture of the mountain in the distance, is a legacy of the artist’s first career. Before turning to easel painting, Durand originally worked as an engraver, who produced not only banknotes, but also translated other artists’ paintings into works on paper. This forever left him with a highly detailed sense of line and detail, which is readily apparent in this peaceful scene. (William Keyse Rudolph, 2014)
