“Copy/paste” appreciation post –Invented 50 years ago (!) at Xerox PARC and surviving countless UI paradigm shifts, the concept from Larry Tesler was so prescient that its naming and usage have barely changed since. Still the easiest and most reliable way to get data from one app to another.

In Sept 2024 I went to a company unsolicited and proposed they hire me. Then I pestered them about it EVERY SINGLE WEEK FOR SIX MONTHS. I found out yesterday I’m hired with exactly the terms I proposed and I start Monday. Persistence pays off!

I think a lot of the Apple / Siri delay takes are getting it wrong. The main reason for the delay isn’t that LLMs are hard, it’s that PRIVACY is hard.

Mac developer PSA: having just sold a Mac app (Taska for GitHub/GitLab Issues) to a new owner, there was one part of the process of transferring ownership that really caught everyone off guard. Actually we never were able to transfer the app, because Apple wouldn’t let us! A 🧵…

@gruber.foo I think you've finally arrived: Rick Steves has an entire article on how to use Markdown. (And for some bizarre reason was the top hit on my "markdown escaping asterisks" google.) www.ricksteves.com/travel-forum...

#1 Smart TVs.

When every single product in a category is shit and nearly every single household buys that category, that’s a signal.

Weekend #Swift project: MarkdownToAttributedString. Maybe not the first of its kind, but the only one I know of that's:

✅ Built on top of Apple's Markdown parser
✅ Supports all versions of iOS / macOS*
✅ Customizable style sheets
✅ Open source (MIT License)

(* Untested on Mac OS 9 and earlier 😛)
GitHub - madebywindmill/MarkdownToAttributedString: A Swift package that converts Markdown content into an NSAttributedString. Built on top of Apple's Markdown parser.

I wish Apple macOS engineering would remember to keyword tag their pref panes. The new design is such a mess, it's so much better to search for what setting you need to tweak…when search works.

Why is everyone riffing on advent calendars so hard this December? Even my local bbq joint is doing a different “smoked meat” every day of the month. (Dec 11 is a chicken fried beef rib which honestly is pretty damn enticing.)
