Everyone needs to buy loo roll.

Might as well buy it & put 100% of profits into causes for social good, huh? 😊😊

And bonus! One of the orgs benefiting from your dry fanny will be the brilliant @migrantvoice.bsky.social 🧻🧻

Just 6 days left to back the kickstarter!

So pleased for this team, and especially this young woman. Rori was one of the top point guards in the country until she tore her ACL two years ago. She's not been the same since but she sure seems to be hitting her stride again.

Both of these threads are well worth a read even if you don't work in education. Gives you an idea of the Wild Wild West that is HE at the moment, with a government seemingly determined to apply strictly capitalist principles to what should be a fundamental human right in a sector crucial to growth.
I work at CCCU so I can add a bit of detail. The huge majority of these additional students for us are not on-site, typical full-fee paying, they are 'partnership' students where the actual degree they study is franchised or validated from CCCU, but taught elsewhere.
'11 universities expanded by more than 11,000 students over the past decade, while the three institutions with the biggest growth expanded by more than 20,000 students – BPP University (28,915 more students), Canterbury Christ Church University (22,410) and UCL (21,490).' 3/3

I'm not sure the maths are right in this para. Surely sharp falls in migration were EXACERBATED (not offset) by a small rise in people leaving?

I love this thread. And not only because I am also called Jim and have always wanted to be a big ginger cat.
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

Universities are in crisis, and I don’t think it’s helpful to phrase that as “exiting the market”. They’re not mid-range shoe shops, these are educational pillars in society
Chief exec of OfS 'said the OfS believes there are 24 institutions at risk of exiting the market in the next 12 months, seven of which are large providers with more than 3,000 students. There are another 25 or so institutions of various sizes at risk over a two- to three-year period, she added.'
Seven ‘large providers’ at risk of going under in the next year
Skills minister says no higher education institutions are at imminent risk of collapse this year but OfS confirms more than 20 providers are being closely monitored

The British government just did something I agree with, and it feels almost gross to mention it. Also: who invented the week? And some Beeching-themed maps.
