It smelled like citrus and whatever fabric softener Dick used. It was unfairly charming.
Slade didn't take off his boots. He never did. With a careless hop, Dick kicked off his jeans and shoes before flopping onto the couch as if he'd been shot. He sprawled wide, one socked foot nudging Slade's thigh as he lingered, still standing.
"You're loitering," Dick said, peering up at him. His fingers drummed a restless beat on the sliver of stomach exposed beneath his shirt.
"I'm choosing where to sit."
"Uh huh—if you take too long, I'll assume you're trying to blend in with the furniture."
Slade gave him a look and then—god help him—sat exactly where Dick would've wanted him to.
