Last day of nature on the Washington coast. After our marionberry pancakes at the lodge we set off to sneak up on fabled Tree of Life. Being careful to stay down wind and out of sight lest it devour us. Then after a dirty chai recharge it was off to probably my favorite of the trip, Ruby Beach.
An ancient warped tree who's gnarled and long roots stretch between two cliffs on a rocky beach, suspended in mid air. A view from the cabin area at Kalaloch Lodge under a grey blue sky. A large wooden lodge overlooking the wooded shoreline nestled in trees. Bleached fallen logs litter the shore. The first vow of Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park. A fence ans tall trees in the foreground. While rocky sea stacks jut out of the sea in the background under a cloudy sky with a little bit of blue peeking through. Objective complete. I've located a suitable lair on abbey Island. Turns out I was a sea monster the entire time! A view from a fissure on a small island looking back on the forest shore of Ruby Beach. Boulders and dead seaweed litter the sand.

After all the waterfalls we finished off the daylight on the black sands of Rialto Beach. After the sun set we drove down the highway in the darkest night I'd ever experienced in my life under stars I've never been able to see before. Next Stop, Kalaloch Lodge.

From one waterfall to another we sought out Sol Duc Falls. Really wanna come back when the salmon are running. Sadly we missed the hot spring season by a day but who needs a stinky hot water bath anyway?

After our trip up the mountain we hit the 101 and made our way to Lake Crescent followed by a hike to Marymere Falls.
