I suspect losing his base doesn't matter to him. He believes he no longer needs them or their votes, and they served their purpose.

He doesn't care about them.

He owns the voting machines.
He owns Congress, Senate, Supreme Court.
That keeps him out of prison, and the money flowing his way.
