Doing an app release at work and got a new warning from Google about a "significant drop" in supported devices.

Google and I have very different opinions on what "significant" means.

The ONE device? An x86 Android 8.0 Automotive emulator from 2017, which targets the Intel Atom Z8000 from 2015 🤦‍♂️
Oh man, this flew completely under my radar. Cursor offers Deb and RPM repos + packages nowadays (released a few weeks back) 🎉

No longer do I have to use the AppImage and regularly cleaning up after Cursor + AppImageLauncher of older releases and desktop files.

🧵And you know what? That's okay. I'm not a personal liberty absolutist by any means, but lines have to be drawn somewhere. It's my fucking device, I will use it how I want.
🧵3/4 You might even have to switch how you communicate (e.g. to one with defined open protocols like Matrix) and down the line as more developers bend the knee and turn on shit like Play Protect, change who you bank with or the services you buy.
🧵2/4 Those alts aren't going to provide the same experience. Maybe not even same high-end hardware. You won't be able to install apps that require more and more egregious attestation, because Google will treat you like a criminal for running a device that isn't aligned with their goals and views.
🧵 1/4 Fuck Google (looking at you, spineless employees at @developers.google.com). Remember folks, there are other options to Android besides just iOS. Sailfish OS exists. Plasma Mobile exists. PureOS exists.

Never had the original #Pebble, but really excited for the Pebble Time 2. Will certainly wait to see if anyone in the #SailfishOS community adds it to Amazfish (I would if time permitted) before I pick one up, but great to see a revival of a classic.
