To those commissioning DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K booklet essays: I write mainly about British and American films - 60s, 70s, 80s cinema. Worked for Arrow (How to Get Ahead in Advertising, September, Count Yorga, Lifeforce, Incubus) and Indicator (Birdy, Fatherland, Captain Clegg, Robin Hood at Hammer).1/2

Also around then, by the time a record was released it might have been on radio for a month or more. One of the things that killed Britpop.

Really, the playing of records that have been around for weeks and languishing a bit is an indicator of how first week gimmicks had broken the charts at this point. #TOTP doesn’t quite know how to react (and had arguably been overtaken by CD:UK).

GREATEST HITS by JOCKSTRAP (2022) (12)

You know the feeling when you hear a song and it feels precision designed to be everything you love about pop and you go and play it at least thirty straight times like you’re 17 again? That.

I've had an idea...

Someone told me that cos there are nearly 800 episodes of the Simpsons, it's possible to describe all other shows with a clip from a Simpsons episode. So with that in mind, I'm going to use a freezeframe/gif to describe every classic Dr Who serial 😁 1 season per day...

HOPE by ARLO PARKS (2021)

For all it’s a terrific decade musically, even at its best, pop has often been inward looking, about the individual. The generosity of this at a time of necessary isolation and disconnection was perfect.

There are people on this train listing things better than watching cricket. Given their imaginative opening gambits were ‘watching paint dry’, ‘punching a brick’ and ‘catching a train to Milton Keynes’ I’m not too sympathetic to their inability to appreciate one of life’s great pleasures.

Australia basically won via two extraordinary individual efforts from Starc and Head; the latter of which was a calculated gamble that hit the jackpot.

On the one hand, encouraging as a team, on the other worrying with Cummins and Hazlewood to come back in. #theashes
