Since launching the idea of a Triple Lock for Young People, I've heard suggestions from free bus travel to activity vouchers to maintenance loans that keep pace with inflation. Young people need more support with getting employment, getting around, and getting housed. What would you include?
I wrote to WCC and have secured minor 84/84A timetable changes from 31 Dec 2025 to reduce buses meeting on tight bends in Harborough Magna. Officers propose double yellow lines on Main Street; Cllr Adrian Warwick will consider WCC funds for a feasibility study.
Like many in Rugby, I've been following the situation in Gaza closely, and I welcome today's ceasefire agreement.
Labour members: today you’ll start to receive ballots for the vote for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.

I’m glad to join colleagues from across the UK in supporting Lucy Powell for Deputy Leader of our party.

Vote Lucy when your ballot arrives! www.lucyfordeputy.co.uk

Should we rename 'tax' as 'community contribution'? Without taxes, we wouldn't have schools, roads, the NHS, or bin collections. Reframing tax as community contribution reminds citizens their payments fund essential services and strengthens civic responsibility.

#DoYouAgree
We must remember the victims of October 7th, support the families of hostages, and stand united against antisemitism here in Rugby and across the UK. A two-state solution remains the path to lasting peace in the Middle East.
Productive meetings at Labour Conference discussing issues that matter to Rugby, Bulkington & Villages residents. From dementia research funding to cancer care plans & tackling pavement parking - bringing your voices to important conversations.
Great team out campaigning in Brownsover this afternoon for our council candidate Alan Pavis. Lots of good conversations with residents. Followed by a drink!

Thanks to the team from @Rugby_Labour & friends from Warwick University
Great to speak to Warwick University Labour Society this evening. Excellent questions and really good debate.

Thank you for the invitation.
Rugby missed out on the Pride In Place funding for town centres last week. I'm disappointed about this outcome. Read my full statement below. 👇
Young people are the future, yet our structures ignore them. During Labour Conference, I proposed a Cabinet Minister for Younger and Future Generations to assess every policy's impact on youth, plus a triple lock for young people with concrete commitments matching support for older generations.

This is your vote, your choice. You the members choose your Deputy Leader.

Having this conversation is not dissent, but an important conversation about how we can be better.

I will be your strong independent voice.
Glad to read in the Rugby Observer about Baroness Twycross, Minister for Heritage and Libraries, praising Rugby's cultural spaces during her recent visit to Rugby Library and the Art Gallery and Museum.

It was great to welcome her to Rugby.

I welcome the news that the government has announced a significant loan guarantee for JLR, which will help protect jobs in Rugby's automotive supply chain during this challenging time.
Young people in Rugby and across Britain face unprecedented challenges about their future.

Yet their voices go unheard in corridors of power.

We need a dedicated Cabinet Minister for Younger and Next Generations to address their needs at the highest level.

Do you agree?
This evening was privileged to watch the dress rehearsal of Rugby-based @fivestartheatre ‘s production of We Will Rock You.

Wow -what a show! What talented performers, directors, producers & technicians!

Tickets still available Thurs-Sat this week 👀 www.fivestartheatre.co.uk/whats-on
Last week, I joined 30 other MPs in writing to Business Secretary Peter Kyle MP, calling for urgent government support to protect the 200,000 jobs at risk across the JLR supply chain following the prolonged production shutdown caused by a cyber security incident.
My letter in The Times pointing out that Israel self-proclaimed itself into existence in 1948, something I support, and that I also support this right for Palestine.
Last week I convened the first of many meetings with faith leaders across the constituency to discuss strengthening our community and fostering cohesion. Thank you to all who joined - future meetings will be as inclusive as possible.
Ten years ago, the Realf family's Parliamentary petition transformed brain tumour research funding in the UK. RAF pilot Stephen Realf's legacy inspired a campaign that secured £40 million Government commitment. Their determination changed everything.

Labour is at its best when we are clear about whose side we are on, and in whose interests we serve, when our values shine through.

I want us to be clear that our objective is to lift children out of poverty and that will mean we need to lift the 2 child benefit cap www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...
Labour should consider hiking gambling tax to fight child poverty, Powell says
Deputy leadership hopeful Lucy Powell said Gordon Brown's proposal to hike gambling tax to fund axing the two-child benefit limit should get 'careful consideration'

Another successful advice surgery - thanks to all my constituents who came to see me.

"It's not my intention to fill the airwaves with a running commentary on the government…But equally I don't think we should shy away from having this conversation right now because clearly there are things that aren't working."
