There's a lot of great talks at ASHG done by talented trainees and scientists - I am listening to one now - but yes, sometimes you want more content and less glamour from some talks.

My thoughts too. It's cool but it's also like an advertisement.

Finalizing my slides for #ASHG25 while on my flight to Boston in true PI fashion. Come check out the finished product tomorrow morning at 10:45am in the excitingly named "Seq-ing Function with Single Cells and CRISPR Perturbations" session! 🙂

Making my slides for #ASHG25 and getting excited to see folks in Boston! Will *try* to be active on Bluesky during the meeting...

Thanks Winona, I appreciate the kind words!

An exciting new study that explores and compares target gene identification from two orthogonal methods: CRISPRi screening and eQTLs! Led by the incredible Sam Ghatan, who started working with us on this as a visiting PhD student, and is now a postdoc presenting it at Biology of Genomes on Friday! 📈

Our new contribution to the quest to find causal GWAS genes! Sam Ghatan from my lab at @nygenome.org led a systematic comparison of eQTLs and CRISPRi+scRNA-seq screens. TL;DR: they provide highly complementary insights, with ortogonal pros and cons. 🧵👇

The lab officially turned 1 today and not only did our brilliant MSc student @hannahpitas.bsky.social make ube cookies for everyone, but she won the CIHR CGS-M! This prestigious award will support her CRISPR base and prime editing projects in the lab. We are so proud of and excited for her! 🥳

Thanks Vijay, I appreciate the kind words. I was looking forward to chatting with you at the GRC Red Cells meeting but withdrew from the meeting - hopefully we can chat in the future!

So I don't know. I'm reaching out to ask if anyone has any tips on getting through this. Maybe you've had to get through something similar? Anything helps. Hopefully my next posts will be about the amazing science we're working on in my lab. 3/3

It's been one month since my dad's sudden and severe cancer diagnosis. It's been one day since he started chemo. I've spent so many hours at the hospital this month and will be spending many more there today. My dad is the reason UofT is my dream job (he got his PhD there in '98). 2/3

It's been one year since I began my faculty position and in many ways it's been absolutely incredible. The ups and downs of academia are rewarding in their own ways. My students and research associates are amazing. But how do you keep motivated in the face of overwhelming despair? 1/3

What an insightful study! Congrats all around 🥳

Our lab continues to grow! We have just recruited three talented graduate students to expand our efforts in studying the noncoding genome 🧐 Please give a warm welcome to Mike, Hannah (@hannahpitas.bsky.social), and Javad! 🥳 morris-lab.org/team

Hello Bluesky! I am a human genetics researcher at the University of Toronto's Donnelly Centre. My lab opened in the Spring of 2024 and we are focused on studying noncoding regulatory genetics using biobank-scale data, single-cell sequencing & perturbation screening! Learn more here: morris-lab.org

It feels like there's been a surge to Bluesky! I will try to be better about posting here instead of the dark other place.
