I went to see Saipan again last night & it is great to see Irish cinema maturing, dealing with the complex nature of Irishness while still being incredibly entertaining. But it's also about youth V middle age & the perils of being stubborn, young & ambitious. Opens in Ireland soon, buy a ticket!

Listening to Paul is pretty good advice generally but specifically so here. Go see Saipan when it’s out. Advance tickets on sale now.
SAIPAN, Glenn Leyburn & Lisa Barros d'Sa's new movie, feels very much to me like a follow-up to their Good Vibrations in its focus on someone who is more interested in being themselves than being successful, even if - as in this case - it means missing out on playing in the World Cup.

'Sanatorium' airs tonight on BBC Storyville. Having something I cut on the Storyville strand has long been a major ambition/weird obsession of mine. So I'm chuffed about this. It's on tonight at 10 and on iPlayer after. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

If anyone’s planning to go to the cinema this weekend, make it your business to see Sanatorium. Fingers crossed it will represent us at the Oscars - and honestly, it’s just a truly gorgeous film. And cinematic.

I was singing its praises on Arena last week:

The IFI is doing a Margo Harkin retrospective season all throughout Sept.

Margo has long been one of Irelands most important and influential filmmakers & this season is a rare opportunity to see her most vital works.

It opens with 'Stolen' this Tuesday which I was honoured to cut a few year back.
