For those of you in the DC area, please come to my band's (Good Cook) next gig this coming Saturday, Nov. 1. I'll be on keys, percussion, vocals... Great seafood, scary Halloween-themed songs...
Having fun at the opening ceremony of the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference. Bajan hospitality is the best. I look forward to talking about water security with Members of Parliament from across the globe over the coming days.

Very very few. That's the key question that is being asked on the Hill, State Department, and elsewhere. Most (93-97%) of the qualified folks are long gone. Will need to rebuild.
Some good news for WASH in the US House of Representatives Appropriations FY26 bill:

WATER AND SANITATION: - not less than $451,000,000 shall be made available for water supply and sanitation projects ... of which not less than $225,500,000 shall be for programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

It is broadly agreed that the US foreign assistance infrastructure could be better organized. Were I in Congress I'd be saying "put USAID staff back to work and rescind the mass contract terminations and then let's have a good faith discussion about reform proposals."
Yes. There have been some int'g proposals circulating in the last 24 hours. If the Administration had led with this approach, this process could have been a lot smoother. Unnecessary suffering could have been avoided, and the process would more accurately align with the priorities of Congress.
Here is the latest chaos + disruption @noaa.gov. The DOGE theory of "move fast and break things" will unnecessarily cost lives and livelihoods. There is a right way to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse from USG. This is not that way, at either an individual or agency level. TY @dinahvp.bsky.social
Thank you for covering this under-reported story, Lauren. It's unfathomable to me that the Famine Early Warning System is still down. The "move fast and break things" approach threatens to kill millions, and to pose major security risks to the US and our allies. Secretary Rubio, you can fix this.
