I’ve not seen anything like this before. It’s something I’ve been refining for a while, and I’m really pleased with how it’s come together.

These approaches develop all four language skills but can easily be adapted for subjects across the curriculum, from science storytelling to digital art and geography projects.

The workflows also show how to turn pages into animated videos using Vidnoz or Hedra and how to integrate stories into Book Creator for student-friendly publishing.

For Microsoft users, you can convert the same exported files into PowerPoint, add your own narration, and even create self-marking quizzes in Microsoft Forms using a simple ChatGPT prompt.

For Google users, you can use tools like PDFGear, Brisk Teaching, and Mote to transform exported stories into editable, narrated, and interactive classroom resources.

The workflows show how to export Storybooks as PDFs or image sets, convert them into editable slides or PowerPoints, and create listening, speaking, reading, and writing tasks based on the same story.

I’ve developed step-by-step workflows to make the most of Gemini Storybook across Google and Microsoft environments using free, GDPR-compliant tools. These methods help you edit, narrate, and enrich AI-generated stories.

Google Gemini Storybook is an AI tool that lets teachers and students create illustrated storybooks in minutes. But it has limits: editing, sharing, and repurposing content are not yet straightforward.

The full discussion is a must-listen as it outlines the fundamental tension: AI offers benefits yet simultaneously undermines the core processes of good learning.

We must provide students who are "the best pattern spotting machines out there" with an "ethical and moral compass". This is essential to guide them on appropriate use, and help them understand when they are eroding their own learning, and the environmental impact of AI.

Rita Bateson stressed this is a "second chance" for education, given that "we didn't do it fast enough with social media". We need to act now. This means reprioritising skills, valuing authenticity, eccentricity, and deeper thinking.

AI does offer "incredible opportunities" for students with special needs and language learning. However, to preserve learning, we must reintroduce the "friction that creates good learning" by building education systems around "productive struggle".
joedale.bsky.social
The sheer volume of output leads to "AI slop" and mediocrity. Teachers must become "arbiters of good taste and quality," modelling good use & teaching students when to "disregard the output" because it is "not always optimal". Protecting quality comes with an "intellectual cost".
joedale.bsky.social
This unreliability introduces significant "friction and conflict" between teachers, students, and leadership.
joedale.bsky.social
There is currently no definitive way to "AI proofing work". AI detectors are unreliable; testing genuine writing can yield results from 0% to 100% AI generated depending on how one "fiddles with it".

They are also creating bots to replicate their own typical mistakes and phrases, effectively "bypassing the assessment system".
