That's a wrap! It was another fun conversation about my latest book, "Notable Women of Alabama," last night. I can't thank Ella, Trista, and the staff at the Fairhope Public Library enough for hosting me.
You never know who will be at one of my presentations and book signings. I was once upstaged when Pete the Cat made an appearance. But he was a cool cat about it. It could have been a cat-astrophe, but claw enforcement was not required.
Whatcha got planned this Thursday? I hope you'll join me at the Fairhope Public Library (501 Fairhope Ave, Fairhope, AL) for a presentation and signing of my latest book, "Notable Women of Alabama." It all starts at 4pm and admission is free. I hope to see you there.
Fairhope, AL, had a great turnout for No Kings - 1,000!
Happy to announce a new date for the Page & Palette Notable Women of Alabama book signing - January 10 from 1pm to 3pm.
If we're talking space related toys of the 1960s, we can't leave out Major Matt Mason from 1968. I hope you enjoyed this quick look back at the toys inspired by the space race for Space Week. The celebration continues tomorrow with more fun facts and stories tomorrow.

A couple more great toys from the Space Race era as I continue celebrating Space Week. I had the helmet as a kid, but if I had known there was an Astro Base, it definitely would have been on my Christmas list to Santa.

Continuing my celebration of Space Week, today I travel down the rabbit hole of a much simpler time when imagination powered children's toys. I should know. I had a few. The first of three space toys that were incredibly popular: Johnny Astro by Marx.

Just a friendly reminder that I'll be doing it again, a presentation and signing of my brand new book, "Notable Women of Alabama," Thursday October 23rd at 4pm in the Fairhope Public Library, 501 Fairhope Ave, Fairhope, AL. I hope to see you there!
And the final of three tunes inspired by the space race to kick off the Space Week celebration is a Rockabilly tune. Of course it is. Rockabilly gravitated towards writing songs about space in the 50s. This one is by Nelson Young from 1958, "Rock Old Sputnik."

It's Space Week! A celebration of how space exploration and technology helps the human condition. To celebrate, I'm sharing three more unique tunes from the 50s/60s inspired by the space race. The first is by country music legend Hank Snow, from 1953: Honeymoon on a Rocket Ship. youtu.be/ncCriP8nipo

It's Random Acts of Poetry Day. I'm not a poet, and boy, do I know it. So I'll leave it to the professionals. This is by the Alabama Poetry Society Poet of the Year, Mike Turner, published last year.

It's Wednesday and it's International Music Day. I have too many favorite singers and bands from around the world going back decades, but this duo from Austria is my #1 pick - Mon The Mona Lisa Twins. Who is your favorite international band or singer?

A great turnout at the Fairhope Museum of History Saturday for a talk about my books and introduction to my latest, "Notable Women of Alabama." The first presentation is always the scariest for a new book is always the scariest, but we had a lot of fun. Next up: October 23, Fairhope Library @ 4pm.
Just a friendly reminder, the first presentation and signing for my new book, "Notable Women of Alabama," is this Saturday! Hope to see you there.
A new date has been scheduled for my reading and book signing at Bellingrath Gardens in Theodore, Alabama: November 14th at 10:30am. As they say in rodeo, "be getting it on your mind." :)
When it comes to my outdoor recreation guides, this is better than any book review. A reader used my book, "Hiking Waterfalls Alabama," to create this video. Thank you, Charles Harvell! You picked a beautiful falls to document.

Happy Autumn, everyone. While other authors and writers are jumping onto Substack to share their works and opinion I like to keep things old school: I still have a blog. :) Today I've posted an old short story about autumn. Enjoy!
