This research provides evidence to help inform nutritional counselling and interventions for young people living with HIV 👩🏼‍⚕️
4 distinct dietary patterns were identified which correlated with clinical markers of metabolic syndrome.
Higher intake of minerals and fruits showed lower odds of being overweight and having hypertension 🍇 🍌🍎
Primary data collection was undertaken to on explore sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, clinical examination, laboratory parameters, and dietary patterns 🍲
This prospective cross sectional study aimed to identify dietary patterns and determinants associated with metabolic syndrome in 10-24 year olds living with HIV in Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬

Adjustment for other demographic factors showed that experiencing differential race-based treatment in health care and work lead to a higher burden of multimorbidity reported ‼️
Throughout the study there was a slightly higher prevalence of multimorbidity reported in Black adults compared to White adults - 63.7% of Black adults had multimorbidity vs 60.4% of White adults 📈
Through this cross sectional study, White Whilby et al sought to explore whether racial discrimination was one of the mechanisms determining burden of multimorbidity in a US population 🇺🇸
Multimorbidity prevalence is rising globally. It has been noted that there are evident racial disparities in the burden of multimorbidity 🌎

This study enhances understanding of the impact of health literacy on experiences of care. Improving patient-centred approaches tailored to individuals health literacy could improve perceptions of collaboration in the care of those with long-term conditions.
The study found:
➡️ 55.3% of outpatients perceived limited collaboration between clinics involved in their care
➡️ People with lower health literacy were more likely to report limited collaboration
➡️ Other demographics were also found to be important
How do people with diabetes and comorbidities perceive collaboration across clinics? And what role does health literacy play?
A new cross-sectional study based in Denmark addressed these questions 🇩🇰

This raises important considerations around what we count to measure multimorbidity and what constitutes a long-term conditions. Thought needs to be given to what matters to patients beyond traditional disease-centric frameworks ‼️
Incorporating symptoms and clinical indicators into multimorbidity measurements impacted key outcomes including hospitalisations and functional impairment 🏥
Similarly, using different definitions was showed varying associations with patient reported outcomes 💡
Definitions of multimorbidity are associated with differing patterns of multimorbidity prevalence in people living with HIV 📈

This important work highlights the impact multimorbidity plays in economic implications to individuals, health services and society ‼️
Those with multimorbidity had reduced working life expectancy, with differences noted in types of conditions:
- those with two or more physical conditions worked 8-10 months less
- those with physical-mental multimorbidity worked 3-12 months less
This cohort study analysed in a Finnish population what impact multimorbidity had on the length of time spent in employment 🇫🇮
Learning from these policies show there has to be enhanced training for healthcare providers, methods to assist self management for patients and strengthening of primary care to address multimorbidity in these settings 🏥
54 documents were analysed - though no specific policies around managing multiple non communicable diseases were identified though disease specific policies did consider comorbidity 📑
