@hypervisible.blacksky.app did I miss you talking about friend.com at some point? That product video…

I don’t understand how this does anything but spark revulsion and sadness. Is it a hoax maybe/hopefully?

Love to see this kind of “AI free” colophon info for PlayDate games on the catalog from @panic.com!

(My 7yo and I still working hard on our first game that we hope to submit eventually!)

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

✂️ Snipping this for when I inevitably have to make a speech to the parent-teacher association at my kid's school when AI comes to the classroom
Curtailing people’s ability to read widely and carefully, to locate, assess, and compare different sources for themselves, and to write in their own voice about what they find and what it means, is arguably more effective than censorship. It is also one of the most obvious effects of generative AI.

What is the most cursed programming language and why is it cmake?

Contemplating making a personal pledge to never use AI to summarize something an actual human being actually wrote using their own words without AI generation. A sort of "I see you, other human" pact.

I am so glad thebullshitmachines.com exists.

"Now consider style. Good writers exhibit a powerful sense of rhythm; LLMs do not. Good writers plan out paragraphs and sections like generals plan campaigns; LLMs ramble and natter. Good writers are surprising; LLMs are designed not to be..."

That’s right kids. Don’t let the machines create for you. The deepest and most meaningful essence of your person is imperiled if you do.
I’m not kidding: those who delegate all their writing, thinking and creative expression to machines are going to wake up one day and discover that they can no longer write or think. You need to make your own art. You need to keep your brain working. You need to stay human.

Forget the 'soul' bit, it doesn't have humanity. Using GAI like this is actively erasing yourself and demeaning yourself with the idea that AI is better than you are. You're dehumanising yourself. Plus I'd kick off if any tattoo artist did this to me.
Starts with an anecdote where a tattoo artist worked on a client for 5 hours before he told her the image was made by ai. 🫠

Should I cancel all my work meetings and descend into US election despair-wallowing rubberneckery?

*Me opens up bsky* oh good, science, tech criticism, programming, language, nerd stuff. Because this is the stuff I follow and care about.

*Me opens up X* bad US politics, strange far right or (rarely) far left stuff, all of Elon's shitposts. Literally nothing I've ever followed or engaged with.

As OpenAI and Meta introduce LLM-driven searchbots, I'd like to once again remind people that neither LLMs nor chatbots are good technology for information access.

Am doing a bit of a learning dive into modern c++. The last c++ version I worked with in any real detail was c++98.

A lot has changed in the last 25 years!

Every time I see a new app (most recently www.rosebud.ai) that makes creating things "easy" because of AI, I want to somehow ensure that I consume only creative content made by people using only non-AI tools. Give me the "AI free" certification label already!
