Oil Painter and former foster father… I ADOPTED!

My “New To Me” #ScaryMovie was definitely not a Scary Movie. My 6 year old daughter wanted to watch a movie for Halloween, so we watched Hocus Pocus 2. It is ridiculous thinking the first came out when I was 10 and the 2nd when my daughter is 6. The movie was cute. Not scary at all.
The “New To Me” #ScaryMovie for the 17th was The Strangers: Chapter 1… why is this a franchise? And why is this going to be 3 parts!!! The only good part about the first is the believability, but now they have powers! I need to watch a good scary movie soon and not listen to friends suggestions.
The characters are not unique enough, and the decisions they make are out of nowhere and just embarrassing. This feels like a school project rather than a movie. The original Cube was a great idea that nothing else in the series has been able to get close.
The “New To Me” #ScaryMovie is the 2021 #JapaneseRemake of #TheCube. I really liked the original film to the point I have watched the awful sequel and awful prequel more than once. This remake was the most boring of the 4. It completely misses what makes the original special.
I thought the pacing was excellent for being over 70 years old. I was on the edge of my seat even though I knew what was coming because of countless parodies of this films iconic moments. It feels like every shot has been thought out, meticulously planned, and has a purpose for being there.
The 2 films felt different. The remake is more about Reeve and the life he now lives after his accident. The original is more about the life outside the window that Stewart witnesses. The block has its own charm, and every apartment has a story of its own, being interesting with little information.
For the 15th day and 15th “New To Me” #Scarymovie I chose #RearWindow (1954). I wanted to do at least 1 #AlfredHitchcock film, and on a ranking of the 10 scariest, this was the only one I hadn’t seen. I have seen the Christopher Reeve 1998 TV remake. I now see why the original was so much better.
14th #ScaryMovie for OCT is Choose Or Die. The idea is a haunted video game that makes this film feel like a supernatural escape room rather than a Hellraiser. I will admit there are ideas and parts I liked, but it was a little more funny than I think the makers wanted it. I would watch a sequel.
This really paints a dark future ahead of us, and deep down it is about the selfishness and entitlement people feel and believe they can get away with. Also, what does it mean to be human when humans cannot live up to that expectation.
The “New To Me” #ScaryMovie for the 13th was Companion. These are the kind of movies I wish I could go in blind, but sadly the only reason this film was on my radar was a YouTube Short. It is good, but would have been more interesting if I wasn’t anticipating when the twist would take place.
And that is what I get for answering before listening.
I have seen many parts in clips and as parodies, but the movie as a whole is so much better than just those little segments.
Here is where I embarrass myself with my 12th “New To Me” #ScaryMovie because this is the first time I watched #JAWS. I can see what this movie is such a classic. It holds up 50 years later with building tension and creating believable characters.
“New To Me” #ScaryMovie for the 11th is the recent #NetflixDocumentary “My Father The BTK Killer”. Sometimes #TrueCrime & real life can be more horrifying than film. The unsettling part of this is how it humanized the BTK killer while showing the horrific aftermath of trauma pass to his daughter.
Not quite the answer, but I never played a single RPG until Mario RPG. My gaming history up until that point was platformers and maybe a fighting game. Mario RPG was my gateway to Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.
“New To Me” #ScaryMovie for the 10th was The Wolf Of Snow Hollow. I had two big issues. First, the jokes didn’t land for me. I can see how someone could find the movie funny, but (my second problem) everyone had the same style of humor. The movie kept the same tone no matter what, and I was bored.
I can believe the land is cursed by the devil, but I can also believe it is a family dealing with misfortune and delusions. The witch iconography only added to the film rather than take me out of it.
In addition, the acting was great, especially the children. The setting felt believable.
9th “New To Me” #ScaryMovie for the month is #TheVVitch. Even though there is supernatural elements, the story does not feel reliant on the witchcraft. My favorite part was the destruction of the family through pride, suspicion, and sin. This family would have destroyed themselves without the witch.
I wish that the supernatural elements were left more ambiguous. I like the presence of the token skeptic (slash) #JamesRandi stand-in, but I did not like how the movie used supernatural abilities like mass hypnosis to explain his skeptic stance. This sadly took me out of the film too much.
The 8th “New To Me” #ScaryMovie for OCT was #LateNightWithTheDevil. There is a lot to like about this film, but i ultimately felt let down. Maybe I let the hype influence my opinion. The 70s setting and stylistic choices are the highlight.
Mundane activities had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Everything was so good! First scary movie in a long time where I can actually say I was scared to keep going.
7th “New To Me” #ScaryMovie for OCT was #Barbarian from #ZachCregger. This movie was incredible! I watched this because of the hype for his recent movie that I have also not seen yet. I was not disappointed. I was uncomfortable right from the start. There was no rest points in this movie.
A low budget can sometimes foster creativity, but Escape: Puzzle Of Fear comes across as a movie lead by someone that thinks they are smarter than they actually are.
I cannot think of anything redeeming. The generic music is almost as bad as the writing. Adds popped up randomly because I watch on #tubi, & those held my attention better than this. Over an hour into this film, I am screaming for something interesting to happen. It never did, and very unsatisfying.
6th “new to me” #scarymovie for the month is “Escape: Puzzle Of Fear”. An #escaperoom is a relatively new horror movie concept. Being said, I’ve been to awful Escape Rooms that have had better budgets & acting than this film. None of the characters are likable, interesting, or convincing.
