Flying above Iceland yesterday, passengers crowded around the windows to photograph sunlight on the snowy landscape.

Language differences didn’t matter. We were just a bunch of travelers speaking the universal language of wonder and marveling over our beautiful planet.

Day 6 of diy writing retreat / cat-sitting gig. Is it Day 6 already?

We’ve gone from complete indifference to meowing nonstop till I let him sit in my lap.

If my editor over at @unsolicitedpress.bsky.social complains that I’m late proofing the galley, please don’t out me.

Cats are a priority!

Day 5 of my diy writing retreat / cat-sitting.

In this foggy weather, I finished proofing galleys for my memoir. Just the dedication and acknowledgments left to write, then it’s back to the publisher and fingernail biting time!

Can't help but think "Black Friday" in the lit world means a slew of rejections as editors knock down their slush piles.

Not that I've been getting rejections today. No, not me. Not a steady stream of them. Never.

Slowly reviewing galleys for my memoir, Learning to Spar, to be released in a year. It’s exciting to see how the book will appear in printed form.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Just thinking about a Mensa conference I put on 40 yrs ago. One speaker was a strategist from Microsoft talking about AI, how it was going to replace human intelligence. The arrogance! All AI can do is steal and mimic, not think or create. It was a techboy fantasy then & it’s a techboy fantasy now.

Summers will “step back from public commitments” only because no one will want him anyway. This is not accountability, it’s protection.

When will those in authority finally protect the vulnerable instead of protecting others in authority?
Update from The Harvard Crimson on Summers: he’ll step back from public commitments, but remain in the classroom, continue his directorship of a center, & keep his University Professorship. How is this in any way holding him accountable for his actions? www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...
